WASHINGTON, DC: A viral social media post has sparked debate after sharing a photo of Joe Biden, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, George W Bush, and Jimmy Carter smiling together.

The caption also suggests that Donald Trump was deliberately excluded from the gathering, fueling partisan reactions across social media.

While some users embraced the message, many Trump supporters pushed back, citing controversies, wars, and policy decisions associated with the former presidents pictured. But does the image actually show what the post claims?

Claim: Biden, Clinton, Obama, Bush and Carter took a mirror selfie together

The viral post, shared by X user @Gianl1974 on May 31, 2026, featured what appears to be a casual mirror selfie of five US presidents: Joe Biden, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, George W Bush, and Jimmy Carter.

In the image, the presidents are dressed casually in sweaters and jeans, while Obama appears to be holding the phone to take the selfie. The caption accompanying the photo states, "...nobody wanted Trump in the photo. The last good times of the USA..."

The post quickly gained traction online, accumulating more than 1.4 million views, 44,000 likes, and thousands of replies and reposts. The image sparked significant debate, with many users questioning its authenticity and the claim that Trump had been intentionally excluded.

Among the responses, several Trump supporters defended the former president and accepted the image's premise.

One user wrote, "That's because Trump stands alone as a gifted leader. No one before him will ever be remembered as the greatest leader in our lifetime. Historians will document his accomplishments for years to come." Another commenter stated, "Because Trump was a better president than all of them, even all of them put together. And they now know it."

Fact Check: The alleged image showing former US presidents is fake

The viral image purportedly showing former US Presidents Joe Biden, Bill Clinton, Barack Obama, George W Bush, and Jimmy Carter taking a casual mirror selfie is AI-generated.

While the image depicts the five presidents dressed casually and posing together in what appears to be a home or hallway setting, there is no evidence that such a photograph was ever taken.

No mainstream news organization, official presidential archive, or public record has documented a gathering resembling the one shown in the image.

When living presidents appear together, the occasions are typically formal events, such as presidential library dedications, state funerals, commemorations, or meetings at the White House, and are extensively photographed and documented by professional media outlets.

Multiple users and AI-analysis tools have also identified signs that the image was digitally generated.

Observers have pointed to inconsistencies in facial features, lighting, aging, and other visual details that are commonly associated with AI-created imagery. The absence of any credible documentation further supports the conclusion that the image is not authentic.

While photographs of former presidents together do exist, they look markedly different from the viral image.

Official group photos typically feature formal attire, professional photography, and well-documented settings, not a casual mirror selfie with Obama holding a phone.

Notably, the living presidents, including Donald Trump, appeared together at the funeral of former President Jimmy Carter in January 2025.

Images from that event show Trump seated alongside the other presidents in a formal setting. Therefore, the caption claiming that "nobody wanted Trump in the photo" is not a factual description of an actual event but rather a political opinion attached to a fabricated image.

The post uses an AI-generated image to promote a nostalgic anti-Trump narrative. Although the image attracted significant engagement online, there is no evidence that the depicted selfie is real or that such a gathering ever occurred.
