Fact Check: Is Timothée Chalamet making his MCU debut with Spider-Man 5?
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: A rumor is circulating on social media platforms claiming that Hollywood actor Timothée Chalamet is making his Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) debut with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 5. The claim has sparked fan frenzy and excitement, along with speculation and calls for a fact-check.
Claim: Timothée Chalamet is making his Marvel debut
According to the viral claim circulating on X, Timothée Chalamet will reportedly make his official MCU debut in Tom Holland's Spider-Man 5.
An X post sharing the claim stated, “Director Destin Daniel Cretton has reportedly confirmed that Timothée Chalamet will make a surprise appearance in SPIDER-MAN 5!”
The posts have collectively garnered hundreds of thousands of views as of this writing, with netizens expressing excitement and fans speculating that Chalamet is playing Harry Osborn.
Meanwhile, a few others remained skeptical and questioned the claim's authenticity.
Fact Check: The claim was intended as satire
The claim, however, is false, as there is no evidence that the 30-year-old actor is being cast in the upcoming Spider-Man film.
There are no official confirmations, announcements, or social media posts from Marvel Studios or the ‘Dune’ actor about an MCU debut.
If the claim were true, prominent news and entertainment media outlets would have widely covered it, making headlines and triggering debates on fan pages, but a search on Google and other search engines for the claim yielded no credible media reports.
Additionally, the claim originated from an X account, ‘Havoc Crave,’ which describes itself in the bio as ‘parody’ or ‘satire.
Spider-Man 5 rumors follow Brand New Day success
Chalamet already has several major projects lined up, and his upcoming projects include Dune: Part Three, which is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18 this year.
The actor is also set to star in the animated movie ‘Not Alone,’ currently scheduled for April 16, 2027, and beyond those projects, Chalamet has an action thriller, ‘High Side,’ in development.
The claim surfaced following the massive success of ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ starring Tom Holland and Zendaya.
The movie follows Peter Parker after the events of 'Spider-Man: No Way Home,' which, according to Holland, has a darker and more mature tone than his previous three outings.
When asked if the film closes one chapter or begins another, actor Jacob Batalon noted, “It is a Brand New Day after all.”
Zendaya added, “Whether or not the day has started...is the question.” Holland then responded, “I think the truth is that this is the beginning of a new...thing,” before joking, “Spider-Man: Brand New Thing.”
