Fact Check: Did Hugh Jackman sign a deal with Marvel to remain as Wolverine in the MCU?
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: A rumor is circulating on social media platforms that Australian actor Hugh Jackman signed a contract with Marvel Studios to continue portraying the iconic superhero Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The claim has sparked fan frenzy and speculation, with many calling for a fact-check.
Claim: Hugh Jackman signed a deal to remain as Wolverine
According to a viral rumor circulating online, Hugh Jackman has signed a deal to remain as Logan, also known as Wolverine, in MCU films.
An X post sharing that claim stated, “Hugh Jackman has reportedly signed a multi-picture contract extension with Marvel Studios to remain as Wolverine in the MCU, including a standalone Old Man Logan film.”
The claim has drawn tens of thousands of views as of this writing, with fans expressing excitement. Many believe the claim is true, while a few others questioned the claim’s authenticity, prompting a fact-check.
Fact Check: The claim originated as satire
The claim, however, is false, as there is no evidence that the Oscar-nominated actor signed a contract with Marvel to remain as the iconic claw-wielding mutant.
Although Marvel is looking for a replacement for Jackman in the upcoming films, it has not announced signing a deal with the 57-year-old actor.
There are no official announcements, statements, or social media posts from Marvel Studios or the actor about a long-term commitment to remain in the role.
If the claim were true, prominent news and entertainment media outlets would have widely covered it, but a search on Google for the rumor returned no credible media reports.
Additionally, the claim was posted by an X account called ‘Chaos Crave’ which describes itself in the bio as a ‘parody or satirical’ news account ‘not affiliated’ with ‘PopCrave.’
Hugh Jackman on possible return as Wolverine
Jackman has been doing the iconic role for more than 25 years, ever since he debuted as Wolverine in the 2000 film X-Men, and has since reprised the role at least nine times.
Although Jackman said that he was finished with the character with 2017's Logan, he returned to the iconic role for Deadpool & Wolverine in 2024.
In an interview with Variety, when asked about future appearances in Marvel films, Jackman said, “I don't know what you're talking about. I have no idea what you're talking about."
