Fact Check: Is Trump considering replacing Kash Patel as FBI Director?
WASHINGTON, DC: Following the replacement of Pam Bondi as the Attorney General, a rumor is spreading claiming that President Donald Trump is considering replacing Kash Patel as the FBI Director. The rumor has sparked concerns amid the growing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Let us analyze the claim and fact-check the rumor.
Claim: Kash Patel is next to be fired by Donald Trump
The rumor surfaced after Former FBI agent Kyle Seraphin appeared on Far-right radio host Alex Jones' show to cite sources and claim that Trump will decide to fire Patel on Thursday.
“There is a decent possibility that Kash Patel is fired today and there is a total reshuffle,” Seraphin said, citing two sources. “The question is why, and my guess is that Trump wants to make it look like it's his idea and not while he is under pressure.”
Seraphin’s remark came as Trump announced his decision to fire Pam Bondi as Attorney General on Thursday.
Fact Check: Unconfirmed, discussions are still ongoing
According to a report by The Atlantic, several people familiar with the White House’s plans said there are active discussions about others leaving the administration, including Kash Patel.
However, the report added that the timing of any such move remains unclear and that Trump had “not yet made up his mind."
Patel, who took office promising major changes, has instead faced criticism over the agency’s direction. By December 2025, the FBI was reportedly described as filled with fear and uncertainty.
A 115-page report by a national alliance of current and retired FBI agents and analysts stated that Patel seemed unprepared for the role, with insiders describing the bureau as lacking direction.
However, there have not been any official reports or statements from the White House confirming this decision to replace Patel.
Pam Bondi's exit following tensions in the Trump administration
Bondi’s removal comes after months of reported friction within the administration. Her tenure had already been under scrutiny over how certain high-profile records were handled, adding to the pressure surrounding her role.
While the White House has denied the specific rumor tying her exit to Swalwell, it has not denied that internal disagreements played a part in the decision.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche has since stepped in as acting attorney general while Trump considers a permanent replacement.
Bondi’s departure also marks the second cabinet-level exit in recent weeks, following the earlier dismissal of Kristi Noem as Secretary of Homeland Security.
