Fact Check: Is video claiming to show an ICE agent being beaten by protesters in Hawaii real?
HONOLULU, HAWAII: A video has been going viral, claiming to show an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent being assaulted during the massive ‘No Kings’ protests against the administration of President Donald Trump. The video has sparked speculations about the authenticity of the claim. Let us analyze the video and fact-check it.
Claim: Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent assaulted by protesters
In the video, a man wearing a tactical vest with the word ‘ICE’ is seen when one protester places him in a chokehold, with others joining in the assault.
As the confrontation intensifies, the group repeatedly punches and kicks the individual while bystanders record the incident.
The assault continues until the man appears to lose consciousness. At that point, one woman is heard shouting “stop,” after which the protesters begin to disperse.
The man later seems to regain consciousness, and a passerby is then seen assisting the injured man, whose nose is visibly bleeding.
Fact Check: False, person being assaulted is not an ICE agent
Although the person’s outfit resembles an ICE uniform, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said that the man being beaten next to a Honolulu street is not affiliated with the agency in any way.
A DHS spokesperson told Fox News Digital in an emailed statement that despite the vest, “this person is NOT an ICE agent and is not connected to DHS in any way.”
The spokesperson did not offer any details on the true identity of the man but emphasized that “anyone caught impersonating a federal immigration agent will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
They added that “impersonating a federal immigration officer endangers public safety and erodes trust in law enforcement.”
Violence and arrests mark 'No Kings' protests
The attack occurred as ‘No Kings’ protesters across the country carried effigies of Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and other administration officials, calling for their removal and arrest.
This incident was not an isolated case of violence during the protests. In Los Angeles, police arrested dozens of protesters and deployed tear gas into a crowd on Saturday night.
The clashes occurred near the Metropolitan Detention Center, which has become a focal point of demonstrations since the Trump administration launched an immigration offensive in the city last year.
More than 40 'No Kings' protests were reported across Southern California. The rally in Los Angeles had largely concluded before tensions escalated at the detention center.
The Los Angeles Police Department issued a 'tactical alert' and ordered remaining protesters to disperse, stating that demonstrators were throwing large concrete blocks, bottles, and other objects.
