HONOLULU, HAWAII: Video footage emerging from the 'No Kings' protest appears to show tourists attacking a man in an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) uniform, beating him unconscious and continuing to assault him on the ground. The incident occurred amid large-scale protests held on Saturday, March 28, against Trump administration policies on immigration enforcement, the Iran war, and the rising cost of living.
Demonstrations took place across multiple US cities, marking the third iteration of the 'No Kings' rallies. Immigration tactics by ICE have faced scrutiny following the fatal shooting of two Americans in Minnesota in January 2026 during Operation Metro Surge.
Honolulu 'No Kings' protest turns violent during ICE confrontation
In the video, a man wearing a vest labeled ICE is seen speaking to a group of protesters when a woman suddenly throws a bucket of water on him. The man continues engaging with the group and is not seen displaying any violent behavior.
Protesters are heard shouting repeated slurs targeting ICE. The situation escalates when one protester places the man in a chokehold, with others joining in the assault. As the confrontation intensifies, the group repeatedly punches and kicks the individual while bystanders record the incident.
The assault continues until the man appears to lose consciousness. At that point, one woman is heard shouting “stop,” after which the protesters begin to disperse. A passerby is then seen assisting the injured man, whose nose is visibly bleeding.
This incident was not an isolated case of violence during the protests. In Los Angeles, police arrested dozens of protesters and deployed tear gas into a crowd on Saturday night. The clashes occurred near the Metropolitan Detention Center, which has become a focal point of demonstrations since the Trump administration launched an immigration offensive in the city last year.
More than 40 'No Kings' protests were reported across Southern California. The rally in Los Angeles had largely concluded before tensions escalated at the detention center. The Los Angeles Police Department issued a “tactical alert” and ordered remaining protesters to disperse, stating that demonstrators were throwing large concrete blocks, bottles, and other objects.
Police surrounded approximately 150 protesters and arrested those who refused to leave. Pepper rounds and bean bags were fired into the crowd, with reports indicating that one protester was struck in the eye by a pepper round.
Nationwide demonstrations and political reactions to 'No Kings' rally
Protests and counter-protests also unfolded at Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes, where supporters and opponents of President Donald Trump engaged in heated verbal confrontations. Organizers of the protests stated, “Trump wants to rule over us as a tyrant. But this is America, and power belongs to the people - not to wannabe kings or their billionaire cronies.”
A White House spokesperson dismissed the demonstrations as 'Trump Derangement Therapy Sessions,' adding that the only people who care “are the reporters who are paid to cover them.”
Across the country, protesters carried effigies of Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and other administration officials, calling for their removal and arrest. One of the flagship protests took place in Minnesota, where Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti were fatally shot by federal immigration agents in January.
Their deaths triggered widespread outrage and nationwide protests against immigration enforcement tactics. Thousands gathered outside the State Capitol building in St. Paul, where several high-profile Democrats addressed the crowd.
Musician Bruce Springsteen performed his anti-immigration enforcement song, “Streets of Minneapolis.” In New York City, large crowds filled Times Square and marched through Midtown Manhattan, prompting police to shut down busy streets.
Actor Robert De Niro, who attended the New York protest, told the BBC, “I think more people are starting to see that with this guy, it gets worse and worse and worse every day. Now we're in a war. The next thing is, what he'll do is put troops on the ground. He's crazy.”
