FBI investigating suspicious 'hand signals' made by security team moments before Charlie Kirk shooting

OREM, UTAH: The FBI is cracking open every angle of Charlie Kirk’s murder, including bizarre “hand signals” spotted in the crowd just moments before the fatal shot.
FBI Director Kash Patel went public Sunday, September 21, with news that the bureau is diving deep into theories that erupted online after Kirk was gunned down at Utah Valley University.
FBI 'examining every facet' of Charlie Kirk tragedy
“We are examining every facet of this assassination,” Patel declared on X.
Patel confirmed agents are “meticulously investigating theories and questions,” including “the location from where the shot was taken” and “the possibility of accomplices.”
The bureau is also chasing down “the text message confession and related conversations,” “Discord chats,” “the angle of the shot and bullet impact,” and “how the weapon was transported,” Patel added.
As the Director of the FBI, I am committed to ensuring the investigation into Charlie Kirk’s assassination is thorough and exhaustive, pursuing every lead to its conclusion.

The FBI Director revealed investigators are also scrutinizing “hand gestures observed as potential ‘signals’ near Charlie at the time of his assassination, and visitors to the alleged shooter’s residence in the hours and days leading up to September 10.”
“To protect the integrity of the investigation and subsequent prosecution, we cannot release every piece of information we have to the public right now,” Patel cautioned. “We will ensure every question is addressed at the appropriate moment.”
FBI under fire as doorbell footage emerges
The bureau’s push for transparency follows backlash that it fumbled the manhunt. Agents took 33 hours to track down accused gunman Tyler Robinson, only for his family to finally turn him in. Along the way, they even detained two innocent men.
Robinson, 22, now faces charges of fatally shooting Kirk during a Turning Point event on September 10 at Utah Valley University’s Losee Center. The brazen murder stunned the nation and sparked a wave of theories online.

Among these theories is the possibility of an accomplice. That idea gained traction after footage emerged showing Robinson allegedly speaking about the killing into a doorbell camera shortly after fleeing the campus.
According to university officials who turned the tape over to the feds, the footage shows a man strolling past a house, chatting on his cellphone about the murder. The FBI still hasn’t confirmed if that man is Robinson himself, but public statements so far have stuck to the line that he acted alone.
At least one family living near the UVU campus has been interviewed as part of the probe, officials confirmed.
Mysterious 'hand signals' before Charlie Kirk shooting
One of the most prominent discussions surrounding Kirk's murder has been about the odd gestures made by two men in the crowd, who many believe were part of Kirk’s security detail.
In clips making the rounds online, one man adjusts his hat while holding a phone, while the other shifts his arms in a strange way and glances around. Social media sleuths immediately speculated these moves were “signals” tied to the shooting.
So far, investigators haven’t confirmed any connection and neither man has been publicly identified or accused of involvement. Still, Patel’s Sunday statement shows the FBI isn’t ruling the possibility out.

Veteran cop-turned-security consultant Stan Kephart isn’t convinced it’s anything sinister.
“I can tell you from experience — those were definitely hand signals. The way they were done was not casual. It was more than one signal,” Kephart, a former California police chief who once advised Olympic security, told the Daily Mail.
“My suspicion is that he’s checking off with somebody else, perhaps a supervisor, saying everything is okay. It doesn’t arouse my suspicions. If he wasn’t okay, or if he had something to say, he would have reverted not to hand signals, but to his communication system," Kephart added.
