TUCSON, ARIZONA: The Federal Bureau of Investigation has joined Arizona authorities in efforts to locate Nancy Guthrie, who was last seen on January 31.

The federal agency is reportedly investigating disturbing letters sent to Savannah Guthrie, sources told New York Post. The letters allegedly contain bizarre and threatening messages, including one sender claiming knowledge of a kidnapping.

The individual also referenced accused murderer Luigi Mangione and the January 6 US Capitol riot in the correspondence.

Along with the FBI, federal forensics specialists are assisting the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, which is leading the investigation. Authorities are also reviewing and analyzing cellular tower data to determine who was near Nancy’s home in Arizona on the night she went missing.

Federal agencies expand search for Nancy Guthrie

In addition, warrants to search the broadcaster’s mother’s digital devices have been expedited, with officials authorized to go beyond Arizona jurisdictional limits to pursue in-person leads.

Customs and Border Protection is also assisting the investigation by deploying sniffer dogs for ground searches.

Meanwhile, during a Tuesday, February 3, press conference, Chris Nanos, the Pima County Sheriff, declined to provide a definitive answer when asked whether Nancy was targeted because of her daughter’s popularity. He said, “We’re looking at all the leads, and we don’t know. We’re going to assume both sides of that.”

However, Callahan Walsh, co-host of 'America’s Most Wanted', told Fox News Digital that the possibility cannot be ruled out.

“It's very possible that she was targeted because of who her daughter is. Her daughter's a high-profile television personality on the 'Today show', somebody that people see in their homes and on their television screens regularly,” Walsh said.

“There absolutely could be somebody out there that has a grudge against Savannah Guthrie and has taken it out on her mother, and let's hope that's not the case,” he added.
