Figure skater Amber Glenn skips WH invite after Olympic win: 'Our right to choose what we endorse’
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Team USA figure skater Amber Glenn revealed on Thursday, March 5, that she would decline a White House invitation to celebrate her 2026 Winter Olympics gold medal win.
The 26-year-old attended the 37th Annual GLAAD Media Awards at the Beverly Hilton. During a red carpet interaction with the media, she was asked to comment on Olympians refusing invitations to meet with President Donald Trump.
Amber Glenn says she doesn't blame Olympians for choosing not to celebrate their win with Trump
Amber Glenn told Us Weekly, “I’m electing not to either, so I do not blame them whatsoever. It is our right to be able to choose what we do and don’t endorse, and I think it is a decision that each individual has the right to make.”
The US women’s hockey team also turned down an invitation to meet Trump after their gold medal win at the Winter Olympics, citing “the timing and previously scheduled academic and professional commitments.”
Trump had first invited the men's hockey team to the White House before sending out the invite to the women's team, but not without controversy. He reportedly told the men's team during a phone call that he'd "have" to invite the women's team, otherwise he'd "probably be impeached."
Amber Glenn claims the love she receives 'outweighs the hate immensely'
About the hate she receives, Amber Glenn told Us Weekly, “There’s been so much more love, and the amount of support and encouragement that I’ve received outweighs the hate immensely.”
“I know how much more important it is to have this visibility to young athletes than it is to these people that are being crabby and are hateful of empathy and kindness. What they have to say doesn’t matter,” she claimed.
Meanwhile, during the awards ceremony, Glenn, while giving the award to ‘Heated Rivalry’ for being the Outstanding New TV Series, said about GLAAD: “It is such a great organization, and it’s all about queer visibility in different media, and that’s what I’m all about: having that visibility in sports, especially in figure skating.”
“So to have them supporting me and to be able to support them back, is such a great opportunity,” she asserted.
Amber Glenn wants to star in a Yuri version of 'Heated Rivalry'
Amber Glenn also touched upon the lighter topic while speaking with Access Hollywood about ‘Heated Rivalry’.

“Please hire me so I can fall in love with my co-star, please,” she said. The 26-year-old is the first openly queer woman to compete for Team USA in figure skating at the Winter Olympics.
