‘Foreign fraudsters’: Nancy Mace singles out Ilhan Omar in new attack

WASHINGTON, DC: Rep Nancy Mace singled out Ilhan Omar on Saturday, August 22, calling foreign-born officials “foreign fraudsters” while posting a photo of the Minnesota Democrat on X.

Mace has separately proposed requiring members of Congress, federal judges and Senate-confirmed officers to be natural-born citizens.

The South Carolina Republican made the latest statement on X while attaching a photo of Omar, who represents Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District.

Mace calls out Omar in new attack

“We have foreign fraudsters holding some of the highest positions in the American government. It is a disgrace to our nation,” Mace wrote Saturday.

The post came after months when Mace had announced a proposed constitutional amendment that would impose a natural-born citizenship requirement on members of Congress, federal judges and Senate-confirmed officers.

Omar was one of three lawmakers Mace specifically identified when announcing the proposal back in September last year. 

Mace also named Reps Shri Thanedar and Pramila Jayapal, saying all three were born outside the United States and were not citizens by birth.

“All making clear every single day their loyalty is not to America,” Mace had wrote a few months ago.

Omar was born in Somalia and became a naturalized US citizen in 2000.

There are currently 26 members of Congress who are not natural-born citizens. 

Nineteen are Democrats and seven are Republicans.

Omar dismisses the proposed legislation

Omar previously appeared unbothered when asked about the proposed GOP legislation in May, telling Fox News Digital, “Good luck to her.”

Mace argued that anyone holding power in the federal government should meet the natural-born citizenship standard.

“If you hold power in the American government, you should be a natural-born American citizen,” Mace told Fox News Digital. “For too long we have allowed foreign-born members to hold seats in this government, while making clear their loyalty is not here. We see it every day.”

The proposal has not received widespread public backing from House GOP leadership or a large group of Republican co-sponsors.

Mace has also targeted Omar over Charlie Kirk

The latest clash follows an earlier effort by Mace to censure Omar and strip her of House committee assignments.

Mace filed that resolution in September 2025 over what she described as Omar’s comments mocking the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

“Ilhan Omar has shown us exactly who she is: someone who defends political violence and refuses to condemn the loss of innocent lives when it doesn’t suit her agenda,” Mace said.

The resolution followed an Omar interview on the ‘Breaking Points’ podcast that she later reposted on social media. 

In the interview, Omar criticized descriptions of Kirk as a civil debater and called the mourning around him “complete rewriting of history.”

Omar also shared a separate video describing Kirk as a “reprehensible human being.”
