NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Tom Homan, retired acting director of the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, joined co-host Rachel Campos to discuss public safety amid the border crisis on Sunday, March 31 episode of 'Fox & Friends.'

Campos shared that women in the country felt particularly unsafe with the influx of unvetted migrants, mentioning, "A Venezuelan illegal migrant in Chicago has been charged with robbing and sexually assaulting a woman on the University of Illinois, Chicago campus. This happened less than a month after Laken Riley was allegedly killed by a Venezuelan migrant on the University of Georgia's campus."

Lack of proper vetting of illegal immigrants

"We don't know who most of these people are," began Homan on the subject of criminals entering the United States. "...There are over 7 million illegal aliens roaming the streets of this country."

"When we say they are vetted, that means we run them in criminal databases, but unless they have been arrested in the United States, (it is useless as) we do not have criminal data from their countries."

"Number two, we run (them) through terrorist databases. Unless they were encountered on a battlefield ... (or) unless they are part of an ongoing terrorist investigation, we don't know who most of the terrorists in this country are," he continued.

"So the vetting is very poor if done at all. With 7 million people released in the United States, a big part of that is going to be criminals, gang members, (and) people carrying fentanyl. This is a huge public safety crisis that this administration created."

Tom Homan defends Trump's policy of family separation

Addressing the safety concerns of women and children not just in America, but also those who are members of the migrant groups themselves, Homan said, "The Democrats want to throw out all the Trump policies of zero-tolerance, like the family separation. 2,500 people were separated, (and) that's because the parents were prosecuted. We were (thinking) maybe if we prosecute them ... less women would be raped, less children will die crossing the border."

"At the same time, they want to ignore that this administration released nearly 100,000 children that they can't find, because not only can they not do proper vetting of those who are entering the country illegally, they are not doing proper vetting of the people that they are releasing these children to."

"No one's doing an investigation, no one's raising hell about it, but we should be raising hell about it," he added.
