NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Fox News contributor Jason Chaffetz joined co-hosts Will Cain, Rachel Campos, and Pete Hegseth to discuss the predicament faced by the Democrats as voices are being raised for the dismissal of incumbent Joe Biden from the presidential race, on the Saturday, June 29 episode of 'Fox & Friends.'

Presumptive Democratic nominee Biden met his Republican counterpart, former President Donald Trump, for the first presidential debate hosted by CNN in their Atlanta studio, on Thursday, June 27. The 81-year-old's abysmal performance in the closely moderated debate left his party and supporters shaken, with many questioning Biden's mental fitness to stay in office for four more years.

Roadblocks to Joe Biden leaving the ballot

"(Biden) is a guy elected in 1972, four years before Jimmy Carter. This is how long he has been around the block," Chaffetz told the co-hosts when asked about who would make the call on whether or not Biden stays in the race.

"But this whole idea, this whole notion that maybe they (Democrats) should get a different candidate, that's not the way the system works, folks," he shared. "You can't just go to your convention and say, 'Well, it's not gonna be Joe Biden, we want it to be Gavin, or Gretchen, or somebody else.' That's not the way democracy works, and for the party that says they want to save democracy, that's not the way our system works."

"It depends on the states," Chaffetz proceeded to explain. "Elections are not run by the party, they're not run by the federal government. They are administered by the states. Each state has state law. Once you go through the primary, once you go through the caucus, you have to follow that law."

"There are about 16 states that short of death, or a note from a doctor that says you are incapacitated, you're still on the ballot. In California, even if you die seven days after the primary, which is long past, your name remains on the ballot and it doesn't go to Kamala (Harris) or somebody else."

"Wisconsin, Nevada, all of these states are very pivotal, but you just can't say, 'We picked the wrong person, we gotta go with this other person,'" he added.

Jason Chaffetz shames the media for being too late to warn Biden

Biden missed his chance to withdraw from the presidential race, claimed Chaffetz, saying that the "ship sailed a long time ago. Joe Biden should have stepped back, he should have been taking his victory lap."

"And shame on the media- they should have been doing their job asking these questions, having the intellectual curiosity. And this is on Jill Biden, it's on the people that are closest to the President. We have known that Joe's had this problem for a long time."
