Fox News' Greg Gutfeld says legacy media collapsing 'like a palace in Tehran', slams CNN too
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Television host Greg Gutfeld took aim at the liberal media landscape during a Wednesday, March 11, broadcast, arguing that legacy outlets are losing their long-held ability to control narratives.
Speaking on 'Gutfeld!' on Fox News, Gutfeld said the old media ecosystem, once dominated by large networks and newspapers no longer holds the same influence it once did.
He specifically criticized what he described as the “gatekeeper” role that major outlets such as CNN previously held over how stories reached the public.
According to Gutfeld, the rise of social media platforms has weakened that influence by allowing competing perspectives to emerge almost instantly.

Fox News' Greg Gutfeld says 'old media' collapsing
During the segment, Gutfeld delivered a series of remarks arguing that the dominance of traditional news outlets is rapidly fading.
“The old media ecosystem is collapsing like a presidential palace in Tehran.” He went on to argue that networks once controlled the narrative surrounding major stories.
“When CNN was the gatekeeper, no one could challenge the narrative. They wrote the story, Anderson put on his apron and served it to the public.”
Gutfeld also pointed to the rise of social media platforms as a key factor behind the shift in media dynamics, referencing Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter.
“But now we're quickly blowing holes in it, And you can thank Musk for buying Twitter.”
He also referenced a well-known phrase about misinformation spreading faster than truth, suggesting that dynamic has changed.
“Remember the old line, a lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is still putting on its boots. Now the lie barely gets out of bed before we expose it.”
A post regarding the two individuals arrested for throwing homemade bombs outside of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s home failed to reflect the gravity of the incident thereby breaching the editorial standards we require for all our reporting. It has therefore been deleted.

Gutfeld criticizes CNN's coverage of New York incident
Gutfeld's criticism of the liberal media came as he spoke about CNN's coverage of NYC attack.
Gutfeld criticized the tone of a social media post from CNN describing the suspects’ day before their arrest, arguing that the wording made the situation sound overly casual.
“So this week, CNN once again left the realm of news coverage for the magical land of make-believe”, said Gutfeld.
Reading from the report, Gutfeld mocked the phrasing that described how the suspects’ day “could have been a normal day” before their lives “were about to change.”
“That’s not satire, that’s CNN describing the attack like the opening scene of a John Hughes movie.”
Gutfeld also criticized what he described as a pattern of narrative framing in news coverage. “Notice the framing, the instinct that says before we tell the public what happened, we have to shape how they feel about it.”

Following criticism online, CNN later removed the post and said the wording did not meet its editorial standards. Gutfeld responded with a sarcastic remark about the explanation.
“But CNN saying they have editorial standards is like the Waffle House saying it has a dress code.”
Earlier, Joe Rogan also mocked CNN for its reporting of the NYC attack and accused it of attempting to portray suspects as 'regular fellas'.
