OREM, UTAH: Fox News host Will Cain was visibly shaken on the afternoon of Wednesday, September 10, as he delivered the devastating news of conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s death during a live broadcast.

Cain, who had been speaking with a member of Turning Point USA, Kirk’s own organization, interrupted the interview to share what he called his “great dishonor.”

“Greg, I’m sorry to interrupt you,” Cain said, his voice breaking. “It is my great dishonor to be the person that says this, and breaks this to you on television. But President Donald Trump is announcing on Truth Social: ‘The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by all, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you.’”

Cain, visibly emotional, repeated Trump’s announcement and acknowledged that the weight of the moment was almost too much to take in.

“Charlie Kirk, according to the President of the United States, is dead. I don’t really know where you go from here,” he said. Struggling to continue, he added: “I don’t know where we go from here in a news program, and I don’t know where we go from here in America. I don’t know what’s left for us as a country to discuss when even a discussion and a debate over the issues results in violence that leads to the death of a good man in this country.”

The broadcast captured the raw shock of the news as both Cain and his guest tried to process the loss of a figure who had become one of the most influential voices for conservative youth across the nation. Cain, in front of millions of viewers, interrupted his program to lead a moment of silence and prayer for Charlie Kirk following the shooting.

Charlie Kirk shot dead at Utah College event

Charlie Kirk, a prominent right-wing commentator and the founder of Turning Point USA, has died at the age of 31 after being shot during a campus appearance at Utah Valley University on Wednesday, September 10. News of his death was first shared by President Donald Trump in a statement posted on Truth Social.

Kirk had been hosting one of his signature “Prove Me Wrong” sessions, part of his American Comeback Tour, when gunfire erupted. Video circulating online showed the 31-year-old speaking beneath a white pop-up tent when he was suddenly struck in the side of the head or neck. Chaos followed immediately as audience members screamed and fled, urging one another to “run.” He was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Not long after, a Turning Point USA spokesperson told CBS News grimly, “It doesn’t look good.” Later that evening, the organization confirmed his passing in a statement to People, saying: “May he be received into the merciful arms of our loving Savior who suffered and died for Charlie. We ask that everyone keep his family and loved ones in your prayers.”

Kirk rose to national prominence in 2012 when, at just 18 years old, he co-founded Turning Point USA to promote conservative values among high school and college students. The group quickly became one of the most influential youth-driven conservative movements in the country. By 2020, Kirk had expanded his reach through 'The Charlie Kirk Show,' a three-hour radio program that solidified his ties with President Trump and other high-profile Republicans. That same year, Trump tapped him to serve on a federal commission created to advance “patriotic education.”

Kirk is survived by his wife, former Miss Arizona USA Erika Frantzve, and their two young children.
