Melania Trump shows how 1,700-pound race car was dropped into White House Rose Garden

Melania Trump made a rare public appearance alongside President Donald Trump as the couple attended the Freedom 250 Grand Prix in Washington. The event transformed parts of Washington into a motorsport spectacle, but another striking display was taking shape much closer to home: a full-size race car had been installed inside the White House Rose Garden.

After the festivities, Melania offered followers a glimpse of what went into creating the White House display. In a video shared by the first lady's office, Melania introduced the behind-the-scenes operation while wearing the same red, white and blue color palette seen during the racing weekend. The centerpiece was a roughly 1,700-pound open-wheel race car emblazoned with stars and the words “Fostering the Future” — a reference to the first lady's initiative supporting young people transitioning from foster care.

One photo shows the race car completely suspended in midair against the White House. Secured to a crane by heavy lifting straps, the vehicle appears to float above the building's columns as it is transported toward its destination. Melania said placing the car required “meticulous planning and coordination,” with the striking image showing why. Moving a 1,700-pound vehicle through the historic grounds left little room for mistakes.

The next stage of the operation began as the crane started lowering the race car toward the Rose Garden. The image reveals the enormous distance between the crane's lifting equipment and the suspended vehicle, providing a sense of the precision required to maneuver it into place. Melania described the operation as having “zero tolerance for error.”

After the race car after had safely reached the Rose Garden, the first lady posed next to the vehicle with the White House colonnade behind her. The car's “Fostering the Future” branding tied the unusual racing display to her signature White House initiative.
