Prince William, Kate Middleton share throwback moments with Queen Elizabeth in 100th birthday tribute

The second image showed Queen Elizabeth with Prince William and Kate Middleton at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in May 2019. The moment was captured while Middleton was showing the Queen a “Back to Nature” garden she designed to promote the benefits of the natural world on mental and physical health.

The Prince and Princess of Wales began the Instagram carousel with a black-and-white studio portrait of the then-Princess Elizabeth. The portrait was taken by photographer Cecil Beaton in February 1946 at Buckingham Palace, just a few days before she turned 20. 

The third photo revisited a heartfelt moment between the Queen and a young Prince William as the duo shared a laugh while standing on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. The moment was captured in June 2003 during the Trooping the Colour ceremony,  an annual military parade celebrating the British Sovereign's official birthday.

The next slide highlighted another Trooping the Color ceremony, which took place in June 2022. This time Queen Elizabeth was seen standing on the balcony with Kate Middleton and her three great-grandchildren, including Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. The monarch was also seen holding a cane and interacting with Prince Louis in the photo.

The carousel closed with an iconic photograph, showing the Queen sitting inside the palace with her son, King Charles, grandson, Prince William and great-grandson, Prince George, signifying the next-in-line royal heirs. The palace portrait was released during Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday in 2016.
