WASHINGTON, DC: Florida Republican Rep Randy Fine said he'd support deporting Melania Trump and Elon Musk if they ever lied on their immigration paperwork when becoming US citizens. He brought it up on NewsNation on Monday, October 26, while talking about a federal investigation involving Democratic Rep Ilhan Omar from Minnesota.

Fine pushed for the government to check the citizenship status of everyone who’s become a naturalized US citizen since 1990. He claimed anyone who committed fraud during the process should lose their citizenship and get deported. Still, there’s no evidence that Melania or Musk lied on their documents, and Fine admitted he didn’t know of any accusations against either of them.

Randy Fine calls for review of naturalized citizens

Introducing a theoretical scenario, anchor Nichole Berlie asked him: "Do you think this type of scrutiny should be placed on others who are high-profile with connections to the administration like first lady Melania Trump [or] Elon Musk, who was the head of DOGE?"

The congressman answered: "I believe that we should go back to 1990 and we should re-evaluate everyone who has become a naturalized citizen because what I am understanding is – the kind of fraud we're hearing about from Ilhan Omar is endemic in Minnesota with many, many, many people having gotten citizenship without giving appropriate paperwork. So yeah, I think Ilhan Omar needs to be the first. She certainly should not be the last."

He answered, "I think anyone who was not honest in their immigration paperwork, I don't know anything about the circumstances of the first lady or Elon Musk, I don't know that there's ever been an allegation, but there are allegations about Ilhan Omar's citizenship going back 10 years that people have refused to look at, in fact coming from the Somali community."

Fine added that anyone who had lied on paperwork to obtain US citizenship should be denaturalized and deported. "I believe anyone who lied on their paperwork to become a citizen should be denaturalized and should be deported. Anyone."

Melania Trump grew up in Slovenia and became a US citizen in 2006. Elon Musk, originally from South Africa, gained citizenship in 2002. So far, neither of them has faced any real scrutiny over their immigration status.

Randy Fine's comments follow investigation into Ilhan Omar

Omar, 44, arrived in the US as a refugee from Somalia as a teenager and became a naturalized citizen in 2000, but has been the subject of smears that she married her brother and may be in the country illegally, an allegation President Donald Trump has enthusiastically taken up.

Fine spoke out after Homeland Security officers searched Omar’s home in Washington, DC, on October 12. The Justice Department called it an ongoing federal criminal investigation, but they haven’t shared exactly what the case is about.

It was reported that investigators are looking into whether Omar’s father, Nur Omar Mohamed, gave a false birth date on immigration papers when the family came to the US.

Authorities have sent out over a dozen grand jury subpoenas tied to the case, some involving Omar’s relatives. Right now, Omar hasn’t been charged with anything.
