WASHINGTON, DC: Following his shooting in the ear last week during an attempted assassination, former president Donald Trump declared on Saturday, July 20, that he 'took a bullet for democracy'.

During a rally in Grand Rapids, Michigan, while speaking about Project 2025, he said, "They’re seriously extreme, but I don’t know anything about it. I don’t want to know anything about it. But what they do is misinformation and disinformation, and they keep saying he’s a threat to democracy."

Referring to Democrats, Trump added, "I’m saying, What the hell did I do for democracy? Last week, I took a bullet for democracy."

Notably, Democrats have tried to link Trump to Project 2025, a conservative policy plan supported by the Heritage plan, with former Trump administration officials as contributors. Project 2025 is no longer associated with the former president or his campaign, as per The Hill.

Trump made these remarks a week after the former president escaped an attempted assassination while doing a campaign rally in Butler. Just 10 minutes into his address, he was shot in the ear and had to be carried off stage.

During his speech on Saturday, Trump had a smaller, flesh-tone bandage on his right ear instead of the bigger white one he had on during the Republican National Convention earlier in the week.

During the incident, two people suffered injuries and one attendee and the gunman died. During his Michigan rally, Trump said, "I stand before you only by the grace of Almighty God."

Internet roasts Trump for stating he 'took a bullet for democracy'

Several people on the internet roasted Donald Trump as he said during a Michigan rally that he 'took a bullet for democracy'. Some people said that he 'got a mosquito bite on his ear' while others said 'he did not' take a bullet for democracy.

A user wrote on X, "Trump did not "take a bullet". Reagan took a bullet. Trump got a mosquito bite on his ear" while one added, "He took a piece of debris; shot totally missed the brain worms swimming around in his head."

A person also stated, "He did not 'take a bullet,'" whereas one mentioned, "I can’t imagine anyone who really has taken a bullet for this country is comfortable with that statement."

A user also wrote, "That is absolutely not why he was shot at."
