AUBURN, MASSACHUSETTS: K9 Biza, a female German Shepherd serving with the Auburn Police, is being hailed as a hero.

Late on Wednesday night, January 31, Biza successfully tracked a scent for two miles, leading to the discovery of a missing 12-year-old child.

The child had been reported missing from her home in Auburn, Massachusetts around 10.30 pm, having been absent for approximately two hours.

Given the "freezing temperatures and nature of the incident," Massachusetts State Police troopers were called in to assist local officers in the search. The commendable efforts of Biza and the combined police forces ensured the safe return of the child

How did K9 Biza help find the missing child?

The Auburn Police were alerted that a 12-year-old child had been missing from her home since 8.30 pm. The last known location of the child was in the Pakachoag Hill area of Auburn.

In response to the report and the freezing temperatures, a large team of Auburn Police officers, detectives, and state police troopers assembled in the area to initiate the search.

To aid in the search, the Auburn Police Department deployed their K9 unit, Biza, and K9 officer David Llunggren.

Biza, a female German Shepherd, and Officer Llunggren reportedly managed to pick up a scent that guided them on a two-mile search. The search concluded successfully with the duo locating the missing child.

Biza "led Officers to an area where evidence showed that the child had been present a short time earlier," officers shared on Facebook.

"Officers converged on this area and located the child a short time later."

"The child was reunited with their family and is safe," they added.

What are K9 Biza's exceptional duties?

Biza, a K9 with the Auburn Police Department, uses her keen sense of smell to assist in locating suspects, narcotics, evidence, firearms, explosives, and missing persons.

She joined the department in 2022, at one-and-a-half years old, with support from Vest-A-Dog, per People

Since then, she has been instrumental in solving various cases, including tracking down a suspect involved in a bar fight and locating a suspect in a domestic violence case. Biza has also assisted other departments in finding missing adults, notably locating a missing 25-year-old man within an hour of his reported disappearance.

The K9 also maintains an Instagram account, where her bio states, "Auburn MA Police K-9 Certified good girl 🐾 Dual purpose."
