Halle Berry's daughter, 18, defends mom amid ongoing dispute with Olivier Martinez over their son
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: As tensions continue to rise between Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez, the actress' 18-year-old daughter, Nahla Aubry, has come to her mother’s defense.
The teenager said she has never seen her mother behave aggressively and described the 'X-Men' star as a “loving and devoted parent.” For those unaware, Nahla is Berry’s first child, whom she shares with her ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry in March 2008.
Halle Berry's daughter Nahla addresses Olivier Martinez's abuse allegations
According to Page Six, Nahla shared that she has never witnessed any such unruly behavior from her mother toward her younger brother, Maceo Martinez, her half-brother. She said she has never witnessed any form of physical abuse or forcefulness in any way.
“I have never seen my mom place her hands around Maceo’s neck or engage in any conduct remotely resembling the allegations that have been made against her,” she said.
Nahla noted that she has lived with Maceo for most of his life. She spent time between her mother Berry’s home and her father Gabriel’s home and recently moved from California to Massachusetts for college.
She described Berry, 60, as a hands-on mother who “always made time for me and prioritized what was important to me." Nahla said she has watched her mother do the same for Maceo.
“She attended his games, drove him to practices and tournaments and advocated for his education,” Nahla stated. “She celebrates our successes, supports us through challenges and is always there when we need her.”
Nahla also acknowledged that her mother can be a disciplinarian, adding, “My mom is a loving and devoted parent. She can be strict when necessary and expects her children to follow rules and be respectful. At the same time, she is warm, supportive and deeply involved in our lives."
Nahla also shared that she was "heartbroken" for her younger brother. She described Maceo as "funny, smart and full of personality.” “My mom is biracial, I am biracial and Maceo is biracial,” she wrote. “Throughout my life, my mom taught both of us to embrace who we are, appreciate our differences and respect people from all backgrounds.”
Nahla said she last spoke with Maceo on September 29, when Berry was driving him to school. She said they spoke on speakerphone about her college experience and that Maceo “sounded happy for me and didn’t seem upset about anything.”
“I want very much to speak with my brother and check on him. I want him to know that I love him,” she stated.
The conflict between Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez
Nahla’s statement came after the latest legal development involving her mother and Martinez, who has accused Berry of physically attacking their 12-year-old son, Maceo. According to reports, the alleged altercation took place at Berry’s home on September 26. Following the incident, Martinez requested a restraining order from the court.
The French actor filed for a restraining order after accusing Berry of causing him “emotional and mental distress” also. “The situation escalated, and Petitioner jumped on our son,” Martinez alleged.
Berry’s attorney later responded to the allegations, claiming that Martinez has repeatedly violated court orders and interfered with interventions involving their son.
“There is voluminous evidence, including numerous judicial rulings, that Olivier Martinez repeatedly violated court orders and interfered with necessary therapeutic and educational interventions to the detriment of his and Halle Berry’s minor son Maceo - misconduct for which Mr Martinez has already been legally sanctioned,” the attorney said.
The statement also addressed Martinez’s latest filing, saying, “In a way, today’s filing is not entirely unexpected from an individual with a well-documented history of possessive behaviour.”
“Fortunately, Halle is used to this kind of outrageous conduct from Mr Martinez and, while she is deeply saddened, she will not allow it to deter her from fighting for Maceo’s best interests and providing him with the love and support he needs,” it added.
