Harris breaks Biden's record as she raises $36M within 24 hours of revealing Tim Walz as VP pick
WASHINGTON, DC: The Harris-Walz campaign raked in a $36 million fundraising haul within 24 hours after Tim Walz was announced as Kamal Harris' running mate during a campaign rally in Philadelphia on Tuesday, July 6.
Walz was selected as the VP pick after a vetting process which had other contenders such as Pennsylvania Govenor Josh Shapiro and Senator Mark Kelly (D-Ariz), as per The Hill.
Harris-Walz campaign raises $36 million in 24 hours
The amount raised by the Harris campaign is significantly higher than the $26 million President Joe Biden’s camp claimed to have raked in during the same period after announcing Kamala Harris as the 2020 running mate.
The Harris campaign posted July's fundraising numbers, claiming to have collected $310 million across its committees during that month. It is more than double the $138.7 million that Trump’s team raked in for July, according to the New York Post.
Harris on Tuesday announced Walz as her running mate and said that he is the vice president that the country needs. Harris and Walz will visit battleground states this week, including stops in Wisconsin, Michigan, Arizona and Nevada.
During the Philadelphia rally, Walz described his early days in a Nebraska town, his time in the Army National Guard, and his career as a high school social studies teacher and football coach.
He addressed the crowd, "It was my students who encouraged me to run for office. They saw in me what I was hoping to instill in them: a commitment of common good, a belief that one person can make a difference."
He also took jibes at GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump and his running mate JD Vance. He said, "He mocks our laws, he sows chaos and division, and that's to say nothing of his record as president."
He added, "He froze in the face of the Covid crisis, he drove our economy into the ground, and make no mistake, violent crime was up under Donald Trump. That's not even counting the crimes he committed."

Some online comments read, "Republican Insider: 'Things are going terribly wrong for the GOP nominee at the moment.' Fact Check: True", while one added, "Lol, more fake donations funneled in from China. Go look it up."
A person also stated, "All the money in the world won't help these Frauds", whereas another mentioned, "Massive crowds of 50K plus greeting Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in Detroit and Wisconsin, and J.D. Vance pathetically following them around speaking to crowds of 200 people."
A user added, "Apparently most of that new money is being spent on JD Vance's campaign to ensure that he keeps talking in front of any microphone", while one commented, "Trump’s campaign is literally imploding in real time."
A person also wrote, "MAGA Folks, it’s over. And this is all on you, for nominating a terrible candidate who never had even the slightest chance to win."
