‘Has Trump been to a grocery store in 30 years?’: MTG backs Thomas Massie after Kentucky criticism

WASHINGTON, DC: Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene jumped in to defend Rep Thomas Massie after President Donald Trump went after the Kentucky congressman during a visit to his district. It is the latest sign of Republicans clashing over the war in Iran and the cost of living.

Greene took to social media to back Massie, even sharing a quick story about calling him while he was out shopping for groceries. The post spread quickly.

Her comments came shortly after Trump traveled to northern Kentucky to campaign against Massie and endorse his Republican primary challenger, former Navy SEAL Ed Gallrein.

“Just called Thomas Massie,” Greene wrote. “Phone rings. Thomas answers. Me: hey what are you doing? Massie: I’m at Kroger. Call you back in 10. Lol, he knows the grocery prices.”

Greene then contrasted that with Trump, questioning whether the president had personally experienced the cost of everyday goods. “Do you think Trump has been to a grocery store to do his own grocery shopping in the past 30 years?” she wrote. “Nope.”

Trump intensifies clash with Thomas Massie

While visiting Kentucky, Trump did not hold back on Massie.

He called him “disloyal” and told the crowd in Hebron, “We got to get rid of this loser.” Trump accused Massie of turning his back on the Republican Party and, even worse, the country itself.

Massie was one of two House Republicans who last week bucked party leaders and voted in favor of an Iran war powers resolution aimed at reining in Trump's power to take unilateral military action.

In an exclusive interview with ABC News, Massie said his constituents have raised concerns about the war and its impact on their cost of living.

"The first few days they the war was popular, but then, as we saw gasoline and diesel prices go up, people started to talk about, you know, 'what are the goals? 'How long is this going to go on?'" Massie said.

He added that the longer the war goes, "the public sentiment among Republicans will turn against it."

Trump showed up in Kentucky right in the middle of a feud between Massie and Ed Gallrein, a former Navy SEAL Trump is backing.

The primary is only two months away, and it is shaping up to be one of the year’s major MAGA proxy fights for the GOP. On top of that, the race is turning into one of the priciest House GOP primaries of 2026.

Trump has called Massie the "worst" Republican in Congress and a "moron" after he led the push to release the Epstein files.

Trump has endorsed Gallrein after the president, in October, said Massie "SHOULD BE PRIMARIED" and that he would "lead the charge against him."
