WASHINGTON, DC: Progressive streamer Hasan Piker has filed a $72.5 million defamation lawsuit against CNN commentator Scott Jennings, accusing him of misrepresenting his remarks in a video. Piker alleges that the clip was used to falsely portray him as supporting the lynching of Black Americans.

The 38-page complaint was filed in federal court in Washington, DC, on Tuesday, October 27.

The lawsuit also takes issue with Jennings’ social media posts about Piker’s political activities and his association with Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed.

Hasan Piker accuses Scott Jennings of distorting his remarks

Piker’s lawsuit claims that Jennings deliberately manipulated his remarks to present him as supporting violence against Black Americans. The streamer argues that the video and the comments made alongside it gave viewers a false impression of what he had said.

The complaint describes the video as “false, fabricated, and manipulated,” placing the focus on how Piker’s words were presented during the show and on social media.

The dispute follows Jennings’ decision to play the clip during an August episode of ‘The Scott Jennings Show.’ During the segment, the CNN commentator accused Piker of “calling for Black voters to be lynched.”

Piker’s legal action challenges that portrayal, alleging that Jennings’ presentation of the remarks falsely linked him to calls for racial violence.

Jennings also referred to Piker’s campaign stops with Abdul El-Sayed, a Democratic candidate running for the Senate in Michigan.

In a social media post featuring the segment, Jennings wrote, “Abdul El-Sayed’s best pal and campaign partner says the USA should resume lynchings against black people.”

The post connected Piker’s association with El-Sayed to the controversy surrounding the streamer’s remarks. Jennings also described the alleged position as “the Piker plan of returning our country to lynchings.”

These statements are among the comments at the center of Piker’s defamation complaint. The lawsuit alleges that Jennings used the video to portray the streamer as advocating the return of lynchings against Black Americans.

$72.5 million defamation lawsuit focuses on August show segment

Piker filed the 38-page complaint in federal court in Washington, DC, seeking $72.5 million in damages.

The legal action focuses on the video shown during Jennings’ August program, along with the statements the commentator made about it.

According to The Hill, the complaint sets out Piker’s allegations against Jennings and challenges the way his remarks were represented to viewers. The lawsuit argues that the portrayal falsely suggested he supported lynching Black Americans.
