SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH: Senator Mitt Romney (R-Utah) found himself in hot water after he compared President Trump to a "human gumball machine" for his tendency of airing his unfiltered remarks at public events.

Romney, the 2012 GOP presidential nominee, made the bizarre comparison on Sunday, December 10, during an appearance on NBC News' 'Meet the Press', where he covered major subjects including the Israel-Hamas conflict, the Texas abortion case involving Kate Cox, and the 2024 presidential campaign.

During the interview, Romney expressed his concerns about Trump's conduct nearing the conclusion of his presidency, rather than the fallout from his declaration that he would be a "dictator" only on "day one".

“Donald Trump is kind of a human gumball machine, which is a thought or a notion that comes in, and it comes out of his mouth. There’s not a lot of filter that goes on,” the senator told host Kristen Welker.

“There’s not a lot of, ‘What’s the implication?’ No, no. He just says whatever. I don’t attach an enormous amount of impact to the particular words that come out and trying to evaluate each one of them,” he continued according to the Wrap.

Instead, Romney continued, Trump’s record as a leader speaks for itself. “I do think you can look at his record as president, and particularly in the last months of his presidency, and say, ‘This is a dangerous approach. It’s an authoritarian approach.’ That gives me far more concern than him playing to the crowd as he did,” he added.

What did Mitt Romney say about Donald Trump’s second term?

Although Romney refuted Liz Cheney's recent assertion that Trump will not step down from office after four years if he is returned in 2024, he did make it apparent to Welker that there is "no question he has authoritarian rulings, and interests, and notions which he will try and impose."

“I don’t think Donald Trump would want to stay in longer than four years,” he said, adding “And the reason I say that is because I think he is running for retribution, and I think he will have finished his retribution after four years if he’s elected.”

“I don’t think he particularly likes being around the White House. I think he’d rather be back at Mar-a-Lago or other properties of his. But he wants to show that he’s not a loser, he won. And he wants to go after the people who were tough on him. So, I think he’ll be finished after four years and go back to other occupations,” the senator stated further.

Romney added that Trump would behave differently in a second term if given the chance. Rather than being surrounded by "the generals," Trump would "have people around him encouraging his impulses and perhaps adding to them. And I’m afraid you’d find the nation more divided,” he claimed.

Internet reacts to Mitt Romney’s comments

Romney’s remarks have garnered immense social media attention, with users slamming him for comparing Trump to a 'human gumball machine'.

“He should know; he is one,” one user mocked. “Mitt Romney has always been jealous of Trump. The closest democrat will never be relevant,” the second user slammed.

“Mitt, You've been late coming out,” the third user asserted while the fourth one said “Money Mitt? He needs to retire, go be with your family.”

“Mittoruis had no support, so why should we care what he has to say?” the fifth user fumed. “Mitt Romney is like a gum ball that was chewed up and spit out after it lost its flavor...garbage,” one more said.
