NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: House Republicans have revealed articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Sunday.

These articles, presented by Rep Mark Green allege Mayorkas of "willful and systemic refusal to comply with the law" and "breach of public trust."

Following this news, Fox News anchor Sean Hannity took to X, formerly known as Twitter to report on Mayorkas’ impeachment as several other people on the internet also took a brutal jab at the secretary.

Sean Hannity reports on Alejandro Mayorkas’ impeachment

Fox News host Sean Hannity took to X and wrote, “'UTTERLY UNFIT': House GOP Unveils Impeachment Articles Against Alejandro Mayorkas. “This secretary is utterly unfit for the office he holds."

Hannity’s tweet featured an article from his official website which reported that the House of GOP has announced two articles of impeachment against Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

The House has reportedly accused him of failing to do his job by allowing thousands of illegal immigrants to enter the country and surpassing the record-breaking illegal crossings.

As per The New York Post, the articles apprehend Mayorkas of willful and systematic refusal to comply with the law and breach of public trust.

Moreover, the House Homeland Security Committee is anticipated to endorse the charges during a Tuesday hearing, and House Speaker Mike Johnson pledged on Friday to conduct a floor vote "as soon as possible."

If impeached, Mayorkas would become the second Cabinet secretary in US history to face impeachment, the first since Secretary of War William Belknap in 1876.

Additionally, the first article asserts that Mayorkas opted not to enforce the law, specifically neglecting a mandate stating that asylum seekers who unlawfully cross the border "shall be detained" until a decision on their status is reached.

Release into the US interior is allowed only on a case-by-case basis under this requirement.

Mayorkas stated this month that 85% of migrants who enter the US illegally are being released to await decisions.

This figure is in addition to a separate program established last year, allowing 30,000 asylum seekers per month from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela to enter the country through legal ports of entry while awaiting case decisions.

The second article of impeachment accuses Mayorkas of providing false information to Congress by asserting that the border is "secure" and failing to comply with document requests.

Internet calls Alejandro Mayorkas a 'traitor'

If impeached by the House, Mayorkas, who held high-ranking positions in the Department of Homeland Security during former President Barack Obama's eight years in office, will face a Senate trial, putting the border debate in the election-year spotlight.

One person wrote, “Only two reasons to impeach Mayorkas - he is lying or he is utterly unfit ... both are critically important,” and another said, “He looks shocked! 😁  It's one of the few times I've seen him when his nose wasn't in the air.  🤣.”

An X user slammed Mayorkas, “He is nothing short of a traitor!! Away with him!!” and another added, “Unfit?? He's committed treason, in my humble opinion!!”

One more person called out Mayorkas, “He should be in prison,” and another expressed, “Unfit? I'm not sure. I don't think he's even tried to do his job. He appears to be working very hard to UN do it, and to lie to the rest of us so as to get away with it for as long as possible. He's doing that very well.”
