LAS VEGAS, NEVADA: In an exciting victory on Sunday, February 11, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, the Kansas City Chiefs earned their third Super Bowl triumph in the past five years, and Patrick Mahomes was named MVP for the third time in that span.

The 28-year-old received the trophy after the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers 25–22, marking his third career victory in this regard.

Patrick Mahomes earns MVP for the third time

Patrick Mahomes won MVP in a thrilling overtime contest. San Francisco led Kansas City by three points after a field goal in overtime, but in the closing minutes of Super Bowl LVIII, Mahomes and the Chiefs scored the game-winning touchdown.

Tight end Travis Kelce was his top receiver, with nine catches for 93 yards in front of his girlfriend, Taylor Swift.

It was Mahomes' third career win of the trophy. His current record for the second-most Super Bowl MVPs in NFL history is tied with Hall of Famer Joe Montana; only Tom Brady has won more, with five.

After winning it in the Chiefs' Super Bowl 57 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, Mahomes also became the third player in history to win the award in back-to-back seasons, per USA Today.

When asked how he maintained composure to lead the team to the winning drive, Mahomes responded that it was "a microcosm" of their campaign.

The quarterback complimented Harrison Butker, who knotted the game with a field goal to force overtime, and his team's defense for "keeping us in there."

During the on-field festivities, Mahomes referred to his wife Brittany Mahomes as a "great wife" and screamed out the names of their two children, son Patrick “Bronze” Lavon Mahomes III, who is 14 months old, and daughter Sterling Skye, who is 2 and a half months old.

The Super Bowl LVIII MVP winner continued by saying that he is "proud of the guys and the coaches" for winning, per People.
