LOS ANGELESS, CALIFORNIA: Renowned political commentator Fareed Zakaria recently delivered a sobering assessment of President Joe Biden's prospects for the 2024 presidential race.

Drawing on his expertise, Zakaria's insights on CNN's 'GPS' shed light on the formidable challenges facing Biden and the Democratic Party, urging a candid appraisal of the current political landscape.

Zakaria uncovers troubling signs for Biden

Zakaria's analysis began with a startling observation: the unexpected resurgence of Donald Trump in key battleground states, a trend that defies conventional wisdom. Delving into the details, Zakaria uncovers troubling signs for Biden's re-election bid.

Highlighting the disparity between Biden's economic achievements and public perception, Zakaria notes, "I understand that polls are not always accurate, but in general, they have tended to underestimate Donald Trump's support, not overestimate it."

He underscored the disconnect between the administration's economic record and its recognition by the public, stating, "The shift here is stark."

He further said, "On the question of who voters trust more to deal with the economy, Trump has a 22-point lead over Biden, according to an NBC poll from January. This marks a 15-point bump for Trump compared to the same poll in 2020."

Challenges for Biden amidst cultural issues

The analysis extends to cultural issues, where Biden's support appears shaky on critical topics like immigration, despite his advantage on issues like abortion.

Zakaria also highlighted the internal divisions within the Democratic Party, particularly evident in the contentious debate over the Gaza conflict.

He remarks, "Perhaps the most worrying new trend for the Democrats is that far from being the more unified party, they are now bitterly divided over the war in Gaza."

Meanwhile, Trump consolidates his position within the Republican Party, buoyed by unwavering support and a perception of persecution. Zakaria acknowledged the potential for unforeseen events to sway public opinion but warned that current trends favor Trump.

He suggested, "The trials against him keep him in the spotlight, infuriate his base, who sees him as a martyr, and even may serve to make him the object of some sympathy among people in general who believe that his prosecutors are politically motivated."

Emphasizing the urgent need for bold action to reverse Biden's fortunes, Zakaria reflected on the perception of Biden's competence, noting a significant shift in public opinion favoring Trump.

He asserted, "That 25-point shift could be a reflection of people's sense that the president's age is affecting his capacity to govern."
