Donald Trump makes embarrassing gaffe regarding son Barron's age during TV interview
The age mix-up occurred during Donald's sit-down with Telemundo 51, Miami's Spanish-language NBC affiliate.
When questioned about his son Barron's upcoming role as a delegate for Florida at the Republican National Convention, Trump responded, "He's pretty young, I will say. He's 17. But if they can do that, I'm all for it."
However, Barron, the only child from Trump's marriage to former first lady Melania Trump, had celebrated his 18th birthday just two months prior on March 20.
Barron has largely remained out of the public eye compared to his older half-siblings. However, the upcoming Republican convention has pushed the teenager into the political spotlight, as he prepares to join his half-brothers Donald Trump Jr and Eric Trump, as well as his half-sister Tiffany Trump, as delegates representing Florida.
Despite the unconventional family dynamics, the Trumps have seemingly rallied around Barron, with Melania reportedly raising him to be bilingual and fiercely protective of her son's privacy.
Barron is currently enrolled at Oxbridge Academy in Palm Beach, Florida, and is slated to graduate on May 17. Notably, Trump recently sought permission to attend Barron's graduation ceremony amid his ongoing hush money criminal trial in New York City.
Trump himself hinted at being barred from attending the ceremony, accusing Judge Juan Merchan of bias and corruption. However, Merchan later clarified that Trump's attendance was permitted as long as it did not disrupt the trial schedule.
Internet wastes no time in trolling Donald Trump for lapse regarding Barron's age
The internet's reaction to Trump's lapse regarding Barron's age was swift and merciless, with users taking to social media to unleash a wave of mockery and criticism. One Facebook user joked, "At least he remembered he had a son!" Another quipped, "Prolly don't even know his own age!"
A third user expressed concern, writing, "He didn’t 'misstate' it. It’s called dementia."
While a fourth criticized, "Worst father ever." Another critic remarked, "Trump only cares about himself." Meanwhile, a commenter said, "He lucked out and got his name right."
One user humorously wrote, "Dummentia at its finest." Lastly, an eight user sarcastically quipped, "What a family man.. Those good Christian values just keep shining through. America should be proud."
