LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: A former NBC executive has found himself at the center of a social media firestorm after making a controversial remark about Barron Trump, the youngest son of former President Donald Trump.

Mike Sington, who claims to have worked at NBC for 30 years, ignited widespread outrage when he took to X (formerly Twitter) and declared that Barron was "fair game" on his 18th birthday, as per Daily Mail.

In the now-deleted tweet, Sington wrote, "Barron Trump is 'fair game' on his 18th birthday." This statement sparked an immediate backlash, with many accusing Sington of inciting potential attacks against the former First Son. Facing intense criticism, Sington ultimately removed the tweet but did not issue an apology.

In a statement to Newsweek, Sington attempted to clarify his remarks, saying, "I posted he was 'fair game' now, meaning, as an adult, he's 'fair game' for criticism from the press."

He added, "Someone pointed out to me 'fair game' could mean fair game to be harmed. I don't wish physical harm on anyone, so I took it down. I listen to the comments and criticism I receive."

Barron Trump has largely remained out of the public eye throughout his childhood

Barron, unlike his older half-siblings, has largely remained out of the public eye throughout his childhood. As the son of a former president, he faced the unique challenge of growing up in the White House during his father's tenure.

"Barron will be this country's first homeschool shooter," wrote SNL writer Katie Rich in a since-deleted tweet during Trump's inauguration back in 2017, exemplifying the harsh scrutiny and criticism the young Barron endured.

Despite facing such attacks, Barron has been praised for his politeness and kindness by those close to the family. "I cannot stress enough how kind and polite Barron is… he's just a great kid," said Stephanie Grisham, former White House Press Secretary and Melania's once chief-of-staff.
