WASHINGTON, DC: Robert F Kennedy Jr, an independent running for president, is walking back a line used in fundraising emails that characterized the defendants on January 6 as 'activists' who had been 'stripped of their constitutional liberties', according to CNN.

Notably, the campaign's central theme, fears of government overreach, was tapped into in the fundraising appeals sent to supporters on April 3 and 4. They did this by drawing parallels between the legal cases against those arrested in connection with the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol and the plight of Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, whom the emails referred to as a 'political prisoner'.

The fundraising messages reads, "We must free Assange now! The Brits want to make sure our government doesn’t kill Assange. This is the reality that every American Citizen faces – from Ed Snowden, to Julian Assange to the J6 activists sitting in a Washington DC jail cell stripped of their Constitutional liberties."

Notably, the wording is strikingly similar to that used by former President Donald Trump and his supporters to justify the riots on January 6.

The Kennedy campaign has canceled its relationship with the responsible vendor, according to campaign spokesperson Stefanie Spear, who told CNN that the wording used in the fundraising emails was 'an error'.

According to Spear, the campaign believes that anybody who 'violated the law' concerning the uprising on January 6 should be subject to 'appropriate' punishments.

Spear stated, "That statement was an error that does not reflect Mr. Kennedy’s views. It was inserted by a new marketing contractor and slipped through the normal approval process. Anybody who violated the law on Jan. 6 should be subject to appropriate criminal and/or civil penalties."

Notably, the campaign messages were sent out a few days after Kennedy said on CNN that President Joe Biden was a worse threat to democracy than Donald Trump, even though he acknowledged that the former president's attempt to rig the 2020 election 'clearly is a threat to democracy.' During the Biden administration, Kennedy's argument revolved around his social media ban.

Kennedy said on CNN’s 'Erin Burnett OutFront' on April 1, "(Trump) overthrowing — trying to overthrow the election clearly is threat to democracy. But the question was, who is a worse threat to democracy? And what I would say is … I’m not going to answer that question. But I can argue that President Biden is, because the First Amendment, Erin, is the most important."

Internet slams Robert F Kennedy Jr

Several people on the internet trolled Robert F Kennedy Jr as he disowned language used in fundraising emails that characterized the defendants on January 6 as 'activists' who had been 'stripped of their constitutional liberties'.

A user wrote on X, "No real Democrat is voting for him," while one added, "He’s dangerous!" A person also stated, "'walks back' is a euphemism for 'admitted I lied'. Always remind them of that."

A person added, "No wonder his family hates him!" whereas one mentioned, "This is very disappointing. His flip-flopping is a problem."

A user also wrote, "He’s a failure to the Kennedy Legacy with his conspiracies and opponents are alleging illegal benefits from American Values 2024," as one stated, "It's funny watching them go nuttier as their campaigns begin losing steam."
