NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: California Gov Gavin Newsom took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to hit back at former President Donald Trump's criticisms over his stance on abortion on Friday, April 26.

Newsom has consistently advocated for California to become a legal sanctuary for abortions, and he has even introduced legislation allowing residents of Republican-controlled states to access care in his state.

Donald Trump's attack on Gavin Newsom

The presumptive GOP nominee went on a rant against Newsom's stance on abortion issues on Truth Social.

Trump wrote, "Gavin Newscum, the failed Governor of California, who is allowing his once beautiful State to go to Hell, refuses to recognize that Republicans are the Leaders on IVF (Fertilization).

"We are the ones taking care of Women, and now, after 53 years, where both Parties and all Legal Scholars and Experts wanted the always difficult and contentious subject of Abortion to go back to the States, we got it done, and now the States are setting their own Rules and Regulations - and it's really working!" He added.

"We've given the Abortion Issue back to the Voters. It's clean, it's decisive, and we've taken Radicalization by Democrats, the killing of a Child in the 8th Month, 9th Month, or even after Birth, off the table," Trump continued, levelling the conservative allegations. "It now seems probable that our Country can start to pull together on the always difficult and controversial Issue of Abortion."

"IT'S UP TO THE STATES NOW, WHERE EVERYBODY WANTS IT. AND WHERE IT ALWAYS SHOULD HAVE BEEN!" he concluded.

Gavin Newsom's response

Sharing a screengrab of Trump's post on X, Newsom pointed out, "Donald Trump is doubling down on abortion bans that have caused 160,000 women to flee their states in desperation."

He went on to paint the grim picture, writing in his tweet, "Bans that have forced women to have miscarriages in toilets and waiting rooms. Mandated rape victims to carry a child to term. Criminalized doctors and anyone willing to help a young woman. And robbed millions of women their freedom. And he’s (Trump) bragging about it."

Internet reacts to Gavin Newsom's tweet

MAGA supporters trolled the Democratic Governor in response to his post, as evidenced by the following tweets.

"Gavin, millions have left California because you have destroyed it. Trump is coming back! Go cry!" wrote a user.

"He’s right tho. And you are a failure," stated another.

"Donald Trump has given the people the ability to vote for the laws that govern them," commented a user.

"If you spent as much time focusing on your state as you do on Trump it would probably be a great place to live," jibed a user.

"The decision just went back to the states where it should have always been. Instead of worrying about other states , worry about your own failed state," commented another user.
