NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Host Megyn Kelly discussed new information surrounding the death of 'Friends' star Matthew Perry that has recently come to light with conservative influencer Will Witt on the January 12 episode of the 'Megyn Kelly Show.'

The 54-year-old actor who was found dead in his hot tub on October 28, 2023, had long struggled with addiction. He claimed to be clean for months before his death, but the autopsy report showed that his death was caused by "acute effects of ketamine," reported US Weekly.

Perry was undergoing ketamine infusion therapy to treat depression, but the drug found in his system could not be from his last session, according to the medical examiner.

The investigation into his death was officially closed in January 2024. Days later, the Daily Mail reportedly claimed that the star indulged in abusive and manipulative behavior against women.

Sharing this information, Kelly mentioned that Perry's claims of being sober were a lie, "the addicted guy never did conquer that beast and really just did what he did best - in that memoir, in his interview with Diane Sawyer - act." She then asked for her guest's opinion on the topic.

Witt suggested that the accusations leveled against Perry were "pretty airtight," in response to Kelly's query.

"What this goes to show me, in all of this, more than anything, is that Hollywood is an evil place, with people who are all liars, with people who don't actually care about being good people. They care about selling the image of being a good person," he continued.

"The way that this is, and how we are viewing it is so much more of a lack of good priorities on the normal Americans' part. That we are heralding these people up, putting them so high on a pedestal, and when they fall down, being shocked and surprised that they weren't actually these good people. Why would you expect them to be telling the truth about these things?" he added.

Fans react to the discussion

Followers of Kelly did not like the way the conversation surrounding Perry played out, and shared their disappointment in Instagram comments of the uploaded clip from TMKS.

"Just because someone has an addiction doesn’t make them a bad person. I’m really shocked that anyone would say that an addict stating he’s sober and using his money and time trying to help other people is lying because he fell off the wagon and ended up dying. He’s not even here to stand up for himself …. I mean shame on all of you…. no wonder people don’t ask for help 😢" wrote a follower.

"I don’t like the tone of this interview at all. Matthew Perry dealt with addiction. Addiction typically includes times of sobriety and times of relapse. He tried to conquer it and couldn’t. No need to demonize him! He probably still helped a lot of people along the way. Denial and shame are not the same thing as acting. Let’s not make people with addictions out to be terrible people. That seems unreasonably cruel and to what end? 😢" shared another.

"Way to stomp on someone’s grave. How very, very sad. He wanted to help people… this isn’t helping anyone. Let the poor man rest in peace," wrote a third.

"The man fought demons, everyone in his life & surrounding him knew it. Now it’s time to let him rest in peace," expressed a fourth.

"This is a weird conversation. Love you Megyn… but speaking in a soft voice doesn’t change the actual tone of this conversation. The man was addicted, which is a tragedy. Why bother speculating? It’s low form. None of us knew him. Let him rest in peace," commented a fifth.
