LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Following the 'indefinite suspension' of 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!', California Governor Gavin Newsom posted on Friday, September 19 that he would 'indefinitely suspend' Kid Rock from performing in his state, claiming that his music is "horrific".

The spat between the California governor and the prominent Donald Trump supporter isn't something new. They have taken a jab at each other earlier as well.

Feud between Gavin Newsom and Kid Rock takes new turn

Gavin Newsom took to X and wrote in all caps, "Because of his horrific music, California will indefinitely suspend Kid Rock from performing in this golden state. You're welcome! — GCN."

At the time of writing this story, the singer has not responded to Gavin Newsom's social media post.

Interestingly, Newsom's post seems to be a dig at Jimmy Kimmel's suspension and his show being taken off the air "indefinitely", following his comments about the motives behind the killing of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk.

"Jimmy Kimmel Live will be preempted indefinitely," an ABC spokesperson informed a news agency.

Following Kimmel's remarks on Kirk's killing, the head of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), Brendan Carr, openly threatened the license of ABC affiliates who broadcast Kimmel's show.

It was a move Democratic lawmakers and other critics quickly decried as an abuse of government power against constitutionally protected free speech.

Newsom's post mentioning the suspension of Kid Rock seems to be a dig at the Trump administration, as the musician is a prominent Trump supporter.

Last month, Newsom and Rock were involved in an online spat after the California Governor took a jab at Kid Rock.

On August 18, Gavin Newsom's office had shared an AI-generated image of Kid Rock along with the text, "Kid Rock wants you to support Gavin Newsom."

Certainly, it did not end up well with the musician who reshared the post and wrote, "The only support Gavin Newscum will ever get out of me is from DEEZ NUTZ."

Following this, Newsom offered the same response to Kid Rock and wrote, again in all caps, "I hate Kid Rock !!! — GCN."

Moreover, the account added a follow-up mimicking another Trump post on Swift and wrote, "Has Anyone Noticed that since I said “I hate Kid Rock” He's no longer 'hot?' — GCN."

Notably, Kid Rock also performed during the 2024 Republican National Convention.

In June 2025, the POTUS gave a shoutout to the musician's brand-new restaurant, The Detroit Cowboy, which proudly sports the slogan — "Go where you’re celebrated, not tolerated."

"Congratulations to my friend, Kid Rock (I call him Bob!), on the Grand Opening of his new Nashville restaurant, 'The Detroit Cowboy.' I hear it is a very friendly MAGA establishment, and look forward to going there sometime soon," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

Internet trolls Gavin Newsom

Several internet users trolled Gavin Newsom for his post mentioning he has "indefinitely" suspended musician Kid Rock from performing in his state, claiming that his music is "horrific".

The people seemed to have taken his joke seriously as they criticized him.

A user wrote on X, "BECAUSE OF HIS HORRIBLE PERFORMANCE AS GOVERNOR, THE AMERICAN PEOPLE DON'T WANT GAVIN NEWSOM TO BE PRESIDENT. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER," while one added, "You could at least try to be funny."

A person also stated, "I thought you all were suddenly for free speech? Actually I didn’t think that," whereas one mentioned, "Uhm I don’t think you can ban an American from Playing in an entire state."

A user also wrote, "I didn't know elected officials were in the business of telling people what kind of music they are allowed to listen to. That's what dictators do," while one commented, "You guys should just succeed from the country so we can put up a wall there too."

A person also mentioned, "Who ever is writing your posts, you should clear it first. This post will not end well for Gavin. Just, wow!"
