‘No other way': Rep Tom Emmer updates ‘Fox & Friends’ on potential impeachment of DHS Secretary Mayorkas

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Co-host Steve Doocy was joined by House Majority Whip Rep Tom Emmer to discuss DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas' impeachment being put to vote, on the February 6 episode of 'Fox & Friends'.
At the start of the segment, the co-host shared that if it goes through, Mayorkas may become the first cabinet secretary to be impeached in nearly 150 years. However, Republicans can only afford to lose three votes, on account of their slim majority in the House.
Sharing the day's agenda for the House, Emmer said, "We're supposed to vote on the procedural rules later this morning. Then around 5.50 this afternoon we're supposed to vote on an aid package for Israel, and the impeachment of Secretary Mayorkas."
Does Majority Whip have the votes to impeach Secretary Mayorkas?
"I am confident that if we have our members here, we should be able to do this," stated the Congressman in response to Doocy's question.
"Look, Steve, it is time to hold Secretary Mayorkas accountable. We have no other way to do this. He will not resign despite the fact that he has wilfully refused to enforce our federal laws to secure our southern border," he continued.
"In fact, he instructed his subordinates not to enforce the laws. This is not just a nonfeasance, this is malfeasance. This is active neglect on the part of the Secretary, and since he won't do the honorable thing and resign, the House needs to hold him accountable through impeachment. It's the only choice we have."
Tom Emmer responds to claims by constitutional experts
Acknowledging his admiration for constitutional experts like Jonathan Turley and Michael Chertoff, Rep Emmer said that in the particular case of the impeachment of Secretary Mayorkas, they would do well to "look more closely at the process and the evidence".
The experts had earlier appeared on the show to state that the Republicans did not have sufficient evidence as defined by the Constitution for the impeachment of the DHS Secretary.
"The process was deliberate," shared Emmer. "It was thoughtful (and) extended over a year. They studied the topic."
The migrant crisis is costing Americans almost half a trillion dollars, he stressed.
"Forget about the fentanyl overdoses… forget about the crimes… you're talking about healthcare, housing, education expenses for illegal immigrants that the American people are having to cover."
"When it comes to constitutional experts, the evidence is clear that this secretary has not just a difference of policy, he is wilfully refusing to enforce federal law that will secure our southern border. That is an impeachable offense," he added.
