WASHINGTON, DC: Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) voiced strong support on Saturday, March 14, for President Donald Trump’s decision to target Kharg Island as part of the expanding conflict with Iran.

In a public statement, Graham described the move as a “necessary” escalation and argued that the island represents a central component of Iran’s oil and gas economy.

Graham said striking a key economic site could alter the trajectory of the conflict, noting that Kharg Island serves as a major hub for Iranian crude exports.

Kharg Island plays a significant role in Iran’s energy infrastructure, functioning as the primary terminal for the country’s crude oil shipments. Graham said that targeting the facility could disrupt the Iranian government’s economic capacity to sustain military operations.

“Seldom in warfare does an enemy present such a critical vulnerability,” Graham said, arguing that pressure on the island could affect Iran’s broader energy sector.

“He who controls Kharg Island controls the destiny of this war,” the senator added, suggesting that the site’s importance makes it a strategic focal point in the conflict.

Beyond the economic implications, Senator Lindsey Graham said that the strikes on military facilities around Kharg Island also addressed what he described as a potential nuclear escalation risk.

In his remarks, Graham said the timing of the operation came “in the nick of time,” arguing that Iran had been advancing its nuclear enrichment program.

The senator claimed Tehran may have believed it could move closer to 90% weapons-grade enrichment before the United States responded.

Graham said the strikes targeted fortified military installations on the island, which he argued disrupted infrastructure connected to Iran’s broader military and nuclear ambitions.

He added that the operation was intended to reduce the regime’s ability to support radical groups in the region while limiting the risk of further nuclear development.

Graham also argued that the strike could influence the pace of the war by increasing economic pressure on Tehran. He said the administration’s approach reflected an effort to weaken the financial resources that support Iran’s military capabilities.

He concluded his statement with “Semper Fi,” a phrase commonly associated with the US Marine Corps.
