WASHINGTON, DC: A video explaining the correct pronunciation of Kamala Harris' name resurfaced on the internet in light of her political rival, former President Donald Trump announcing that he couldn't be bothered to care about the correct pronunciation.

Speaking at the Turning Point USA Believers Summit in Florida on Friday, July 26, Trump, "There are numerous ways of saying her name. They were explaining to me, ‘You can say Ka-ma-la. You can say Ka-maaa-la.' I said don’t worry about it. It doesn’t matter what I say. If I mispronounce it or not, I couldn't care less. Some people think I mispronounce it on purpose, but actually, I heard it said about seven different ways. There are a lot of ways."

He has since drawn flak from her supporters, including the Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, who responded, "Mr Trump, I know you have so much trouble pronouncing her name. But here's the good news- after the election, you can just call her Madam President."

Correct way to pronounce Kamala Harris' name

The official account of Kamala Harris had posted a video back on May 24, 2016, which showed children demonstrating the correct way to say her name.

"It's not Cam-el-uh. It's not Kuh-mahl-uh. Not Karmel-uh. It's Kamala. Kamala Harris," says a bunch of kids in the clip. "Kamala's for our schools. Kamala's for affordable childcare. That's Kamala. Kamala Harris."

"I am Kamala Harris and I approve this message," plays Harris' own voice at the end.

On July 22, BBC Radio presenter Tina Daheley posted her own video on X, where she explained how the first name of the Indian-origin Vice President of the United States should be pronounced. She cited Harris' memoir and pointed out that "Kamala" should be pronounced like the punctuation "comma" followed by "la."

"I think it's a good time to try and get this pronunciation right once and for all," she observed in the video, which as of July 28, received over 3.2 million views.

Reacting to her tweet, a user named Dan Barker shared the 2016 video, which itself grabbed over 188k views.

Internet refuses to pay heed to correct pronunciation

While the video tutorial to speak the VP's name has gone viral, netizens were not up for learning the lesson. A majority of people commenting on Daheley's tweet stated that they could not be bothered with the information, as the following examples demonstrate.

"Well, that's the most pressing issue of the day settled. I couldn't get to sleep worrying about this last night. 🤥" mocked a user.

"Nobody cares. I’ll pronounce it how I like," stated another.

"No one really cares," echoed a third.

"Please, we are struggling to put food on the table and our lights on. Help. BBC: Here is how to pronounce the VP's name," jibed a fourth.

"Imma stick with Kumala and Camela," chided a fifth.
