WASHINGTON, DC: Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg defended the handling of illegal immigration and border crisis by the Biden-Harris administration during his interview with host Shannon Bream on Fox News. Republicans have made the border issue a major criticism of the current administration, and Vice President Kamala Harris' alleged role in the issue has led to her being nicknamed the 'border czar.'

Former Mayor Buttigieg turned against GOP rhetoric in his post, accusing their nominee, former President Donald Trump, of blocking the passage of border legislation before the election.

Pete Buttigieg says Kamala Harris was 'not in charge of border'

"Let's be very clear about this because there has been a lot of mischaracterization," Buttigieg noted on Fox. "She (Harris) was not in charge of the border. The Homeland Security Department is in charge of the border."

"She did do something important, though. She was assigned to conduct diplomacy with Central American countries, knowing that that's part of the bigger picture of what's affecting the border. And you know what? Those Central American countries are among the few countries to see their numbers go down in terms of the source of migrants who are seen at the border."

As Bream countered, "Not by much," Buttigieg went on the offensive and shifted the blame on Trump.

"(Biden) wanted Congress to resolve (immigration) because that would have been more durable. But when Trump came in, talked Republicans out of their own bipartisan project because he didn't want the issue to get better. Remember, the worse things are at the border, the better things get for Donald Trump. So he has a vested interest in it remaining chaotic down there," he said.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky) and other GOP lawmakers had objected to some provisions in the bill that was added by Democrats, the host argued, but Buttigieg stood his ground.

"Let's get real. You know why they didn't move forward," he insisted. "They moved forward because Donald Trump swooped in and said I don't want Joe Biden to get a win."

Internet divided as Pete Buttigieg defends Kamala Harris

Social media users were divided on the Buttigieg interview and had different views on the topic. While some praised Buttigieg for stating facts, others accused him of lying.

"An incredible intelligent person, armed with the facts, will always make light work of Foxes lightweights," commented a user.

"You mean, repeat the lies until they're true?" inquired another.

"Damnnnnn he wiped the floor," commented a third.

"No facts came out of his mouth," stated a fourth.

"He is truly masterful at this," quipped a fifth user.

"Excellent. The man prevailed and got his true and honest message across, despite the repeated interruptions by a dipstick of an interviewer/presenter," noted yet another.

"Pete Buttigieg can out talk and outsmart all who spout disinfo," echoed a seventh user.

"He’s a joke, and so is Biden and the Harris administration," slammed another.
