Human bones found near Nancy Guthrie’s home, police swiftly dismiss connection
CATALINA FOOTHILLS, ARIZONA: The investigation into the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie took a dramatic turn as reports emerged that human bones had been discovered near her Arizona home. However, it seems it is not connected to the disappearance of the missing mother.
Tucson Police, on Thursday, May 7, rushed to a desert area around 15 minutes east of Nancy’s residence, where streamer AJ Double U News, who has been covering the case, said bones had been found.
Fox News reporter Michael Ruiz, reporting from the scene as the search intensified, posted footage showing officers working behind police tape while online speculation swirled over whether the remains were tied to the disappearance of 'Today' show host Savannah Guthrie's mother.
The 84-year-old Nancy has not been seen or heard from since the night of January 31, with investigators believing she was abducted from her Tucson home during the early morning hours of February 1.
Bones found near Nancy Guthrie's home will be subject to 'prehistoric anthropological investigation'
After a brief investigation, officials confirmed that the bones do not belong to the missing 84-year-old as they appear to be at least 50 years old, possibly even “prehistoric.”
"The bone found near Craycroft and River was determined to be human. This will be a prehistoric anthropological investigation,” Tucson Police Department told KVOA, confirming there was no criminal investigation into the remains.
Sources also revealed to the outlet that the remains have been transported to the Pima County Office of the Medical Examiner for analysis.
The area where the bone was found has long been known for the discovery of numerous Native American artifacts.
Investigation into Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance
Nancy’s baffling disappearance sparked a wave of prayers and desperate pleas for answers as people across the world became consumed by the mystery surrounding her fate.
The investigation, led by roughly two dozen detectives from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI, has also focused on a string of blackmail messages sent to Nancy’s family and various media outlets, demanding Bitcoin payments in exchange for her return.
No ransom was ever paid, as the Guthrie family repeatedly asked for proof of her life, but the proof never came. Although the family expressed a willingness to comply with the demands, neither they nor the police has managed to determine the authenticity of the emails.
Throughout the investigation, officials have taken in a handful of people for interrogation, and no arrests have been made so far.
Detectives have, however, uncovered several troubling pieces of evidence at Nancy’s home and nearby areas, including blood spots on her front porch, a ripped-off doorbell camera, and multiple gloves. Surveillance footage also showed a masked individual lingering outside the home, seemingly tampering with the doorbell camera moments before it was forcibly removed.
