‘Should not be allowed’: Hunter Biden draws flak as he joins WH meetings with Joe Biden after debate
WASHINGTON, DC: Hunter Biden joined meetings with President Joe Biden and his top aides at the White House after the return of the first family from Camp David, Maryland on Monday, July 1, reported NBC News.
Sources familiar with the matter told the network that the incumbent's son has also been talking to senior White House staff members. They shared that it was unusual for Hunter Biden to be in and around the President's meetings with his team, even though he was a regular at the residence and events.
Hunter Biden was convicted by a federal jury in Delaware on gun-related charges in June. He continues to remain under indictment for alleged tax-related felonies, to which he has pleaded not guilty. Following the guilty verdict in Delaware, Hunter Biden had reportedly returned to his home in California.
Some senior White House staff members are reportedly not happy with Hunter Biden dropping in on the President's conversations.
According to a source, “What the hell is happening?”
Another person familiar with the matter said that Hunter has been closely advising his father since the family gathering at Camp David.
What did the White House say about Hunter Biden's presence in President Joe Biden's meetings?
When asked about Hunter being present during the President's meetings, White House spokesman Andrew Bates stated, “Hunter came back with the President from their family weekend at Camp David and went with the President straight into speech prep,” referring to Biden's remarks on the Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity.
Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre similarly brushed off concerns at the Tuesday, July 2, press conference, telling reporters that the President "is very close to his family".
"This is a holiday week, 4th of July. He spent time with his family, as you all know, and reported at Camp David. Hunter came back with him and walked with him into that meeting, that prep, that speech prep," she echoed.
Political rivals of the President have expectedly called out Hunter Biden's actions, with the executive director of the Oversight Project at the Heritage Foundation Mike Howell telling Fox News, "It's just a pure and simple massive interest in his dad staying president so he can pardon not only Hunter, but Joe and the rest of the family for the crimes they committed, and probably Merrick Garland, too, for his role in the cover-up."
