Idaho In-N-Out mass shooting gunman identified after attack leaves two dead, seven injured

TWIN FALLS, IDAHO: Authorities have identified the gunman behind the deadly mass shooting at an In-N-Out Burger in Twin Falls, Idaho, as 24-year-old Chad Williams, who killed two people and wounded seven others before taking his own life.

Twin Falls Police Chief Matthew Hicks announced Williams' identity during a press conference on Sunday, August 2, saying the suspect carried out the attack on Saturday afternoon before dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police said Williams, armed with what appeared to be an AR-style rifle, opened fire outside the restaurant at around 2 pm, turning the busy drive-thru and parking lot into what officials described as a "very chaotic" scene.

Police hail armed civilian, state trooper

Investigators credited an armed civilian and an off-duty Idaho State Police trooper with helping stop the attack before more lives were lost. "We want to take a moment and commend the actions of the off-duty officer and this citizen and their heroic action to stop this incident," Hicks said.

"We believe their actions helped drive the suspect away from the scene, preventing further casualties."

Videos circulating online appeared to show an armed man exchanging gunfire with Williams outside the restaurant as terrified customers scrambled for safety.

Authorities said Williams acted alone and that there is no ongoing threat to the public. Police also noted that his family has been fully cooperative with investigators. "Their hearts are also broken at this time," Hicks said.

Victims identified as investigation continues

The identities of the two people killed have not yet been released. In-N-Out Burger owner Lynsi Snyder confirmed that one of the victims was an employee of the restaurant.

Among the seven injured was Terry Dudley, a taxi driver who was reportedly shot twice in the back while charging his Tesla in the parking lot.

A GoFundMe campaign described him as a widower and father of four, calling him "tenacious, compassionate, kind-hearted" and someone who always put others before himself.

Police said two of the injured victims have been treated and released from the hospital, three remain in stable condition, and two are in critical condition. Investigators have not determined a motive for the shooting and said the investigation remains ongoing.
