LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In a recent episode of HBO's 'Real Time with Bill Maher', comedian and political commentator Bill Maher stirred the political pot by suggesting an unexpected shake-up in the Democratic ticket for the 2024 election.

According to Dailymail, Maher urged President Joe Biden to consider replacing Vice President Kamala Harris with either Nikki Haley or Republican Senator Mitt Romney, aiming to create a "dream unity ticket" that could bridge the partisan gap.

Maher's unconventional proposal

"I know it's crazy to think that she could run with Biden, but that's my dream, a unity ticket. And then he would, I think, definitely win," Maher stated during the panel discussion on HBO's 'Real Time'.

Maher acknowledged the unconventional nature of his proposal but argued that such a move could lead to electoral victory for the Democrats, with GOP members running on a unity ticket.

Maher acknowledges Haley's 'controversial' statements

During the discussion, Maher acknowledged Haley's controversial statements, including her assertion that America has "never been a racist country."

Despite recognizing Haley's polarizing remarks, Maher emphasized the potential for her candidacy to attract a broader range of voters.

"Of course, she's said some crazy things. Most politicians have- not as crazy as 'We've never been a racist country.' I mean, that's pretty crazy," Maher said, addressing Haley's controversial statements.

In response to concerns about removing Harris, the first African American Vice President, from Democratic ticket, Maher pointed out that Nikki Haley is also a woman of color.

Tara Palmeri highlights potential risks

However, journalist Tara Palmeri raised valid concerns about potentially alienating the core of the Democratic party, particularly Black women. Palmeri emphasized that Black women form a crucial part of the Democratic base.

"You would literally destroy the Democratic base. Take off the first African American Vice President off the ticket?" Palmeri asked during the panel discussion.

"She's a woman of color," Maher replied, referring to Haley.

"But Black women are the core of the Democratic party," Palmeri pushed back.

Maher proposes shift in Democratic leadership

Harris has faced challenges in demonstrating her competence, with approval ratings lower than Biden's. Maher suggested that Utah Senator Mitt Romney could also be a potential candidate to foster a more inclusive political environment, advocating for unity and understanding between opposing parties.

"What I could see is replacing the vice president because she’s just not very popular anywhere. And it didn’t seem to work out. And, I don’t know, that’s been done before on a ticket," Maher suggested, receiving applause from his liberal audience.

Last week, Maher also called for Biden to step aside, claiming that such a move would secure a victory for the Democrats. "If Biden drops out [Democrats] will win. Without a doubt," Maher said.

Haley's presidential campaign suspension

Meanwhile, Nikki Haley suspended her presidential campaign after a disappointing Super Tuesday turnout but refrained from endorsing former President Trump. She called on Trump to earn the support of those within and beyond the party, emphasizing the need for inclusivity in conservative politics.

"It is now up to Donald Trump to earn the votes of those in our party and beyond it who did not support him. And I hope he does that," Haley said.

"At its best, politics is about bringing people into your cause, not turning them away. And our conservative cause badly needs more people. This is now his time for choosing."

Trump's resurgence: Leading in polls and poised for third nomination

Both Five Thirty-Eight and RealClearPolitics indicate that Donald Trump is leading Joe Biden in the majority of recent national polls for the 2024 presidential race. As of March 2, the New York Times/Siena College poll shows Trump ahead of Biden by 48 percent to 43 percent.

Additionally, a recent CBS News poll reports Trump leading Biden by 52 percent to 48 percent.

Following the GOP primary contests held on Super Tuesday, Trump has emerged as the last major Republican candidate standing and appears poised to secure the party's nomination for a third time. The culmination of this process is anticipated on Tuesday, March 12, coinciding with the nominating contests in Georgia, Hawaii, Mississippi, and Washington state.

Georgia, in particular, is expected to be a highly contested state.

In the 2020 election, it swung to Biden, playing a crucial role in Trump's unfounded claims of widespread election fraud. Trump is currently facing criminal charges in Georgia related to his attempts to interfere with the vote count, adding a layer of complexity to the political landscape.

Social media reacts to Maher's unity ticket proposal

One user wrote, "Probably the best Democrat ticket I have heard of so far!"

One replied, "I’ve been saying this for a while now. Nikki needs to identify as Democrat."

One added, "Replacing a democrat VP by another democrats is not a problem."

One commented, "Did he just say this wild be a "definite win"?"
