Internet asks Ryan Gosling to 'stay at home' as he protests Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig's Oscars snub
LOS ANGLES, CALIFORNIA: Ryan Gosling, who played the iconic Ken in 'Barbie', expressed disappointment over the snubs to lead actress Margot Robbie and director Greta Gerwig even as he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor.
However, this statement faced significant backlash.
The recent Oscar nominations revealed Gosling's third-time nomination, earning him a spot in the Best Supporting Actor category for his portrayal of Ken in 'Barbie.'
Social media erupted in protest when users discovered that Margot Robbie, who played the lead role of 'Barbie,' did not secure a nomination for Best Actress. Additionally, the director of the movie, Greta Gerwig, faced a snub in the Best Director category.
This uproar follows a previous wave of support for 'Barbie' on social media when Oscar-winning director Oliver Stone criticized the film, referring to it as "s**t" and part of the "infantilization of Hollywood." Stone later apologized for his remarks.
Ryan Gosling faces backlash after releasing statement calling out the Academy
Gosling faces accusations of dishonesty after releasing a statement criticizing the Academy Awards for overlooking Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie.
According to the Daily Mail, Gosling asserted that the Academy failed to recognize that the movie wouldn't exist without the contributions of Robbie and Gerwig. He expressed his frustration at the apparent snubbing of his female colleagues.
As reported by CNN, Gosling's statement read, "I am extremely honored to be nominated by my colleagues alongside such remarkable artists in a year of so many great films. And I never thought l’d being saying this, but I’m also incredibly honored and proud that it’s for portraying a plastic doll named Ken."
"But there is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally-celebrated film. No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit and genius. To say that I’m disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement."
