Internet calls RFK Jr 'a fighter' after he submits paperwork to get on the ballot in Pennsylvania
WASHINGTON, DC: Robert F Kennedy Jr has submitted the necessary paperwork in Pennsylvania to be included on the ballot for the presidential election in November. The 70-year-old submitted the materials on Thursday, June 20, well in advance of the deadline of August 1, according to the Pennsylvania elections office.
Kennedy's arrival could make President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump's campaigns more challenging in the Keystone State which is expected to be a pivotal battleground in the 2024 presidential contest, Fox News reports.
Robert F Kennedy Jr maintains around 10% support in national polls
Kennedy's support rating in national surveys is still about 10% though it has occasionally reached 15%. Analysts have argued over whether Kennedy's unexpected popularity with voters fed up with the Democratic and Republican parties will hurt Trump or Biden's chances of winning votes.
In states where Trump and Biden are tied, Kennedy's independent campaign could swing the balance either way.
Robert F Kennedy Jr recently failed to qualify for the first presidential debate
Kennedy did not fulfill the prerequisites to participate in the CNN-hosted inaugural presidential debate of the 2024 cycle. In three different nationwide surveys, the independent candidate was only able to garner the required 15% of the vote. CNN also reported that Kennedy hadn't qualified for the ballot in enough states to meet the 270 possible electoral college votes threshold.
Robert F Kennedy Jr lashed out at Joe Biden and Donald Trump after failing to qualify for the debate
Kennedy asserts that he met the qualifications to be listed on ballots in 22 different states, however, not all of them have released official confirmation.
"Presidents Biden and Trump do not want me on the debate stage and CNN illegally agreed to their demand," Kennedy said in a statement on Thursday, June 20. "My exclusion by Presidents Biden and Trump from the debate is undemocratic, un-American, and cowardly," he said.
Donald Trump mocked Robert F Kennedy Jr after the independent candidate fell short
Former President Donald Trump has released a new video poking fun at independent candidate Robert F Kennedy Jr for falling short to meet the criteria to participate in the upcoming first presidential debate.
"I know RFK Jr wants to try to get onto the stage on Thursday, and I'd love to have him frankly, because I don't think he's much of a debater, and he's got some very liberal, radical left ideas," Trump said in the video, adding "But you have to get certain numbers, that was the criteria, and he's way below those numbers. He's not coming close."
"So I hope to see him up there someday, but it looks to me like he's not going to qualify on many fronts," Trump continued. "They say he hurts Biden more than he hurts me, and I don't know if that's true or not. They say he hurts Biden because he's a serious left person. If he is, that's good — I don't really care," he added.
