Cops received reports of a loose pig wandering through backyards
Around 2 pm on Tuesday, police received reports of a loose pig wandering through backyards on Creek Road. Officers arrived on the scene expecting to easily secure the animal but soon found themselves embroiled in a test of wills with the defiant porker.
Video recorded by police shows the pig darting back and forth, deftly escaping the cops' multiple attempts to throw a lasso around his neck or body. Laughter can be heard in the background as exasperated officers try to reason with the uncooperative swine.
"We're all friends here," says one cop as Einswine scampers away yet again. The chase stretched on for nearly a quarter mile through backyards and across streets.
Despite his portly frame, Albert displayed impressive stamina and speed. "They're faster than they look, I'll give him that," Sgt Bob Jones of the Deptford Police Department later told local news station WPVI, adding, "He got pretty far for what he was."
Albert Einswine finally caught by police after a 30-minute chase
Police tried multiple tactics to try to catch the fugitive pig, but Einswine refused to be taken easily. "Everything we learned in the academy went right out the window," Jones said, chuckling. "He wasn't listening at all to our commands," he added.
After about 30 minutes, officers finally managed to throw a leash around the tired pig's neck, ending the odd police pursuit. Albert squealed in protest but stopped resisting once officers secured him.
"Once we got the leash on him, he kind of calmed down," Jones said, adding, "The scene was finally secure."
Police said Einswine's owner eventually arrived to bring his wandering hog back to the farm. The pig suffered no injuries during the chase. Officers checked him for identification tags before releasing him.
While police described it as an absurd day on the job, they said the next time a pig goes on the lam, they'll be better prepared. "Cops chasing a pig is never not funny," Jones said, adding, "But now we know not to underestimate their running ability."
