WASHINGTON, DC: White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre slammed Tucker Carlson’s “ridiculous” claims about the Biden administration interfering with the former Fox News host’s interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

On Tuesday, Carlson posted a preview video claiming that he would be interviewing the Russian President in Moscow.

Saying the “Americans have a right to know” about the war being waged by the Russian Government in Ukraine," Carlson claimed that the Biden administration previously spied on their text messages.

He said, “Almost three years ago, the Biden administration illegally spied on our text messages and then leaked their contents to their servants in the news media.”

Carlson went on to explain, “They did this in order to stop a Putin interview that we were planning.”

He continued, “Last month, we’re pretty certain they did exactly the same thing once again. But this time, we came to Moscow anyway.”

Karine Jean-Pierre hits back at Tucker Carlson’s claims

During her regular briefing on Tuesday, Karine Jean-Pierre was asked about her opinion on Carlson’s statement.

While she initially stated she would “absolutely not” comment on the interview or the veteran journalist’s claims, she retracted it a moment later, saying, “I actually want to go back to your question," per New York Post.

She blasted Carlon’s claims and said, “It’s a ridiculous premise and a ridiculous statement that was made about this administration,” before adding, “So I just want to be very very clear — it’s just ridiculous.”

Tucker Carlson, a vocal Trump supporter who often criticizes the US's backing of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky amid the Ukraine-Russia War, did not, however, provide any evidence to support his claims.

Internet demands proof from Karine Jean-Pierre for her claims

The netizens were not pleased with Jean-Pierre's statement as they demanded proof.

A social media user said, "PROVE why it's ridiculous. By simply calling it ridiculous, she confirms it to be true. Silence is acquiescence."

Someone else slammed, "Because of the way this administration deflects and lies about the ongoing #GenocideinGaza that they’re forcing taxpayers to fund, I now view with skepticism everything that these spokespeople say. They’re losing trust daily."

"Except he has the receipts. She's straight up lying or has no clue since it's been reported that Biden doesn't like her and would rather Kirby be full time Pres Sec," said another netizen.

However, some users slammed Carlson as well, and said, "Oh no, we all really want Tucker and Republicans to publicly kowtow and bend the knee to Putin. Just drop the charade already and admit in you're in the tank for Russia and Putin, Reps; stop pretending."

"Tucker is a fascist tool. He stands for everything wrong with humanity," said someone else.
