CORNVILLE, ARIZONA: Former US Senator John McCain's youngest son, Jimmy McCain, recently slammed GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump for his controversial Arlington cemetery campaign photo ops. However, people on the Internet brought up his dad's campaign ad shot at the very same cemetery.

Jimmy didn’t hold back in his criticism of Trump and said, "It just blows me away", during an interview with CNN referring to the former president's alleged political campaign at Arlington National Cemetery.

While criticizing Trump, Jimmy said, "These men and women that are laying in the ground there have no choice", regarding whether to be a backdrop for a political campaign.

He added, "I just think that for anyone who’s done a lot of time in their uniform, they just understand that inherently — that it’s not about you there. It’s about these people who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the name of their country."

He further said that he registered himself as a Democrat weeks ago and plans to vote for Kamala Harris in November and added that he "would get involved in any way I could" to help her campaign.

However, amid the backlash, an old campaign video of John McCain from 1999 resurfaced over the Internet where he was seen walking solemnly through Arlington National Cemetery, per the New York Times.

The video was shared on X by a user with the caption, "John McCain's son is very angry Gold Star families invited Trump and took pictures at Arlington. Anyway here’s a John McCain campaign ad shot at Arlington….."

John McCain apologized for campaign ad shot at Arlington Cemetery

In November 1999, John McCain said that his newly launched presidential campaign made "a very bad mistake" as he referred to the video shot at the Arlington National Cemetery.

The Army said that McCain’s campaign did not have permission to shoot video in the cemetery. An Army spokesman said at the time that even if they had, the request would have been denied because partisan activity is banned at Army installations.

Moreover, a campaign spokesman explained that the video was from one of the senator’s periodic visits to the graves of his father and his grandfather.

McCain enacted to edit the cemetery footage, a two-second clip in which no particular grave is visible, from his campaign ad just days after the Army issued its statement. The Senator said it was 'stupidity' that his campaign had not acted even sooner to respond to the criticism and apologized.

However, Donald Trump has not yet delivered an apology regarding his photo op at the Arlington National Cemetery.

Internet trolls McCain as his dad's 'bad mistake' resurfaces

People on the internet trolled Jimmy McCain as his dad's campaign ad shot from 1999 at the Arlington National Cemetery resurfaced amid his criticism towards Donald Trump.

A user wrote on X, "Laying down a marker that he’s been promised a spot in the Harris administration if she wins. That’s just how this family operates", while one added, "John McCain's son has been up to some shady deals himself."

A person also stated, "McCain was one of the most ardent pushers of the fake dossier. Hence, the insult in return", whereas one mentioned, "Well that's inconvient for his son statement lol."

A user also wrote, "John McCain was a coward who threw Americans under the bus because he was upset about something Trump said about him", while one commented, "They really don't vet their outrage prior to running their mouth, do they. SMH."

A person also said, "If it wasn’t for double standards…"
