WASHINGTON, DC: Sen John Fetterman (D-Penn) emerged as a staunch advocate for President Joe Biden remaining at the helm of the Democratic ticket despite his lackluster performance in his debate against Donald Trump.

The Pennsylvania Democrats' strong support for the incumbent comes amid his growing divergence within the party, especially concerning his stance on Israel's actions in Gaza and the resulting protests and encampments on college campuses.

In an X (formerly Twitter) post made a day after the June 27 debate, Fetterman wrote, "I refuse to join the Democratic vultures on Biden’s shoulder after the debate. No one knows more than me that a rough debate is not the sum total of the person and their record."

He attached the headline of a Politico story which read, "'WTF': Panicked Dems start looking for alternatives to Biden."

"Morning-after thermonuclear beat downs from my race from the debate and polling geniuses like 538 predicted l’d lose by 2. And what happened? The only seat to flip and won by a historic margin (+5). Chill the f**k out," wrote Fetterman in another post, referencing his own election in 2022 against Republican Senate candidate Dr Mehmet Oz.

Following a stroke he experienced during his campaign, Fetterman faced significant scrutiny for his debate performance against his opponent. Critics especially highlighted his communication challenges and auditory issues, which were prominently evident.

Despite everything, the Pennsylvanian won the race, successfully flipping a previously Republican Senate seat.

Unlike Fetterman, Biden, who is 81 years old, has not experienced a stroke, but he suffers from a number of health issues including spinal arthritis,  gastroesophageal reflux disease, and atrial fibrillation, among other things.

Having said that, he underwent two separate brain operations for aneurysms, one of which ruptured on the left side of his brain in 1988.

In the aftermath of Biden's lackluster debate performance, Fetterman has actively supported the president, in contrast to several other members of the Democratic Party who suggested it would be better for him to step down to make space for a better candidate.

When the New York Times' editorial board suggested that Biden should drop out, the junior senator from Pennsylvania bluntly responded, "Forget that."

Internet disagrees with John Fetterman's advocacy of Joe Biden

Fetterman's comparison of his debate with Oz to Biden's recent CNN debate drew criticism from netizens.

One expressed, "Fetterman may have recovered from his stroke, but Biden will never recover from lost cognitivity, so there is no comparison," and another said, "Fetterman may have recovered somewhat but he's still not all that bright. Biden is still not all that bright but he will never recover from what ails him."

A person pointed out, "Fetterman is comparing apples to oranges here. Suffering a stroke is a medical emergency that has possibility of partial improvement or even full recovery depending on length of onset, prior health issues, and other factors. Dementia has no improvement beyond temporary through medication--and only progresses. Biden's condition will not improve but only get worse."

"Fetterman isn’t President and we found out neither is Joe. Joe for the good of the world resign," declared someone else.

One more remarked, "So, Fetterman is still a Biden defender. I am so sad for him, because I thought he was over his mental problems caused by the stroke. I guess not," while one more echoed, "Fetterman/biden is not really a valid comparison. The difference here is that fetterman had the chance of getting better. Biden will definitely only get worse."
