WASHINGTON, DC: Congresswoman Melanie Stansbury went viral across social media for holding up a sign that read 'This is NOT Normal' while standing beside President Donald Trump as he made his way through the House floor on Tuesday, March 4, reported the Daily Mail.

The sign was ripped away from her hand by a Republican colleague, but not before the commander-in-chief registered the message, as per the publication.

The Democratic US representative from the 1st Congressional District of New Mexico was not the only member of her party to hold up a sign during the POTUS's address to the joint session of Congress.

Rashida Tlaib (D-Michigan) carried a whiteboard with her and expressed her thoughts throughout Trump's speech, which included, 'That's a lie!' Other Democrats held up signs that read 'Save Medicaid,' 'False,' and 'Musk Steals,' while women lawmakers from the party wore pink as a sign of protest.

Melanie Stansbury's sign caught the eye of Donald Trump

When Donald Trump entered the House chamber on Tuesday night, he reportedly came face to face with Melanie Stansbury carrying the sign that appeared to be handwritten in black over a piece of white paper.

According to the Daily Mail, he stared directly at it, rolled his eyes, and turned away, continuing to exchange greetings with the GOP lawmakers on the other side of the aisle. However, the message was clearly received by the 78-year-old incumbent, as he was seen pointing over his shoulder at the sign while speaking to a person from his own party.

Lip reader Nicola Hickling believed Trump was saying at the moment, "This ain't normal. She isn't great to work with at all."

As Stansbury showed no sign of dropping the sign, Representative Lance Gooden (R-Texas) was seen reaching across the aisle and ripping it away from her hands, as Trump made his way ahead.

Internet reacts to Melanie Stansbury's sign

Stansbury later took to the social media platform X to share her message, as she posted the image of herself standing beside Trump carrying the sign and wrote in the caption, "This is not normal."

The tweet divided up the internet, as the following responses demonstrate.

"Wow what a bada**," wrote a person in support.

"She my hero," shared another.

"She is right. Nothing normal in America right now," expressed a third.

"Whole thing was like a middle school classroom," quipped a fourth.

"Free speech people didn’t like her sign huh," jibed a fifth at the sign being snatched away by Gooden.

MAGA followers on X also hit back, posting, "Yeah, holding stupid signs is not normal. Embarrassing nonsense."

"Just spat in the face of a majority of voters. Disgusting," chided another.

"What do you know about normal. Find rock. Crawl under it," stated a third.
