WASHINGTON, DC: Former Republican Representative from Wyoming, Liz Cheney criticized Senator JD Vance of Ohio and termed him not “fit to serve” after the Republican politician claimed he would have chosen not to certify the 2020 election results without the support of pro-Trump electors.

JD Vance recently appeared on an interview with ABC’s ‘This Week’, where he said that he would have “needed” the states to have sent “multiple slates of electors” and “the US Congress should have fought over it from there".

Vance also admitted that he thinks there “were problems” in the 2020 election.

What did Liz Cheney say?

Vance’s stance on the 2020 election, however, did not sit well with the former congresswoman as she criticized the senator in harsh words.

Vance, who is recently being dubbed as Trump’s running mate, was called out by Cheney who declared he is not “fit to serve," per The Hill.

Taking to her social media handle on X (formerly Twitter), Cheney wrote, “Yesterday, J.D. Vance claimed that Trump could defy rulings of the Supreme Court as President.”

She continued, “Vance also admitted he would have done what VP Pence refused to do on January 6th — help Trump illegally seize power.”

She concluded by saying, “That’s tyranny,” and noted, “Neither Trump nor Vance is fit to serve.”

What did JD Vance say about the January 6 incident?

On Sunday, February 4, JD Vance appeared on ABC’s ‘This Week’, where he was asked by the host George Stephanopoulos whether he would have certified the 2020 election if he was the vice-president, as the then VP Mike Pence did.

Calling it a “ridiculous question,” Vance said, "Do I think there were problems in 2020? Yes, I do.”

He added, "If I had been vice president, I would have told the states, like Pennsylvania, Georgia and so many others, that we needed to have multiple slates of electors and I think the US Congress should have fought over it from there.”

"That is the legitimate way to deal with an election that a lot of folks, including me, think had a lot of problems in 2020. I think that's what we should have done,” said Vance, who was once a vocal critic of Trump.

Then-Vice President Mike Pence refused to allow multiple slates of electors for the certification of the 2020 election and ultimately certified the results after thousands of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol on January 6, 2021, in an attempt to stop it.

Internet left divided over Liz Cheney's statement

Internet was left divided in their opinions regarding Cheney's criticism of Vance. While some of the social media users hailed Cheney for calling out Vance, some shredded her by referring to her own defeat in Wyoming.

One of the staunch critics of Cheney said, "The people of Wyoming agreed that you were not fit to serve."

Someone else called her out, saying, "Lying, twisting and spinning his words. That exactly why you're a traitor!"

Another supporter of Trump said, "Lady, Wyoming fired you, no one listens to you and you are on your own bitter mission to destroy President Trump. It won’t work, how did your sad attempt at re election work out for you?"

Someone else supported her by saying, "Couldn't agree more."

Another user said, "And you were determined unfit to serve in a record landslide against you!"

"Thank you for continuing to speak truth to their lies. I never thought I’d see the Republican Party as an institution disintegrating down to nothing but criminals and their apologists in the face of irrefutable public evidence. State & county parties nearly flat broke all over," said another user.

Someone else seconded her, "I’m always amazed when the authoritarians say the quiet part out loud. Vance probably wants to be Trump’s VP. And he knows the only way to get picked is to show he has no fixed principles or integrity & will carry out any orders from Trump without question no matter how illegal, immoral, unethical or unconstitutional."
