WASHINGTON, DC: Democratic Party Senator Jon Tester from Montana, considered one of the Senate’s most vulnerable incumbents, expressed doubts about President Joe Biden’s ability to serve another term.

Tester’s comments come in view of Biden's criticized debate performance. He stressed that American people need confidence to trust in Biden's reelection bid.

Jon Tester says he will 'stand up to President (Joe) Biden when he’s wrong'

Amid the growing calls from Democrats urging Biden to step down, Tester called Biden to prove himself he is perfect for the job.

“President Biden has got to prove to the American people — including me — that he’s up to the job for another four years," Tester said.

He also expressed commitment to opposing the Biden administration when necessary.

"Meanwhile, I’ll continue to do what I’ve always done: Stand up to President Biden when he’s wrong and protect our Montana way of life.”

Tester has been distancing himself from the Biden administration over issues such as security at the southern border and allowing beef imports from Paraguay, according to The Hill.

His reelection race against Republican Tim Sheehy is anticipated to be tough, especially since former President Donald Trump won Montana in both 2016 and 2020, the publication noted.

Senator Michael Bennet believes Joe Biden must reassure American people

Tester’s remarks came ahead of the Senate’s first vote after a two-week recess, it said.

During the recess, many senators refrained from commenting on Biden’s debate performance.

Senator Michael Bennet from Colorado also expressed the need for Biden to demonstrate his capability.

"Sen Bennet believes President Biden must reassure the American people that he can run a vigorous campaign to defeat Donald Trump," Larkin Parker, Bennet’s spokesperson, said.

"As the Senate comes back into session this week, he plans to discuss with his colleagues the most viable path forward in this existential election," he added.

Internet reacts to Jon Tester sharing a word of caution for Joe Biden

Tester’s statement evoked a variety of reactions online with some criticizing the senator while others believe he is making a calculated move to secure his reelection in a predominantly red state.

One user commented, "This is pretty weak from Tester," while another stated, "Senator Tester what a joke."

Some supported Tester’s stance, acknowledging the political reality of his situation.

"He’s running in a red state. And he won in a red state. Maybe he knows what he’s doing," one user argued. One more wrote, "He’s just worried about his own election." One demand, "Vote Tester out of office."

Others criticized Tester for not fully backing Biden. "Yeah Tester is gonna cost Dems the Senate unless he gets behind Biden! Not a good move on his part! We need the Senate in addition to the presidency and House so I wouldn't do this if I were him!" one person wrote.

Some defended Biden’s track record, with one user saying, "He’s proven himself. Y’all wanna keep talking about this like BUT HER EMAILS, you know what happens then? 2016!"
